Overview

The Employment Counsellor is responsible for helping Indigenous clients develop their potential and enter the labour market by supporting them through individual counselling. The incumbent provides information on the school setting and labour market, assists in planning, implementing and monitoring programs and services, and ensures effective and professional communication with various stakeholders.

Tasks and responsibilities

  • Liaise with private and public organizations and educational and training institutions to coordinate training and placement, as required.
  • Meet and interview clients to identify their knowledge, skills, professional and educational experiences, strengths and weaknesses, motivations, values, career goals, etc.
  • Refer clients to the appropriate organizations when their needs cannot be met by urban services and program.
