About the role

As part of the Corporate Services team, the Administration Officer provides front line customer service and administrative support to Council customers, clients and senior staff. This role is key to ensuring a positive customer experience, compliance with Council policies and procedures, and the effective day‑to‑day operation of Council services. The role offers variety and the opportunity to develop across multiple functional areas of Council.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver professional customer service via phone, email and face‑to‑face
  • Receipt, process and balance payments, including data entry and banking
  • Maintain Council registers, including hall and equipment hire
  • Assist with Council Section 7 searches
  • Act as Purchasing Officer for stationery and supplies
  • Support the Sentencing & Disposal Program
  • Provide administrative support to senior staff
  • Support Bute and Port Broughton Library Services
  • Maintain Customer Service procedures
  • Operate the RTC Agency (Port Broughton) in line with Centrelink, Medicare and Service SA requirements
  • Maintain Dog and Cat Management (DACO) records
  • Maintain Records Management systems, ensuring legislative compliance
  • Support Council operations and services

Qualifications

  • Strong customer service focus with clear, professional communication skills
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and perform effectively under pressure
  • Sound IT capability, including data entry and Microsoft Office
  • High attention to detail with strong time‑management skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a small, dynamic team
  • Confidence dealing with customers, including managing difficult conversations
  • Flexible approach to work hours and duties
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and discretion
  • Experience handling cash and working in an administrative or financial environment (desirable)
