About Target’s Merchandising Operations Team
Merchandising Operations exists to be Target’s center of excellence for merchandising
execution. We bring merchandising strategy to life through flawless execution,
predictable outcomes, and operational rigor -enabling our buyers to focus on trends,
strategy, and the guest.
The team delivers best-in-class operational solutions across the merchandising
ecosystem, including vendor onboarding and learning, supplier performance
assessment, compliance, and reliability. By strengthening both vendor-facing and buyer-
facing operations, Merch Ops ensures clarity, consistency, and scale while elevating the
vendor experience and supporting strong business outcomes.
We are building a new, modern Merchandising Operations organization designed to
scale with Target’s growth. This team plays a critical role in shaping new ways of
working and raising the bar for how merchandising execution happens at Target.
Merch Analyst, Merchandising Operations (L4)
Target’s Merchandising Operations team is a center of excellence responsible for turning
merchandising strategy into consistent, scalable execution. As a Merch Analyst (L4), you
will serve as the division owner for moderate-complexity categories, owning end-to-end
operational delivery and acting as the primary operations partner to Buying teams.
In this role, you’ll be accountable for operational outcomes across your assigned
divisions - quality, SLA performance, throughput, and stability. You’ll translate Buying
requirements into executable plans, prioritize work, allocate capacity across L2/L3 team
members, and lead resolution of complex, cross-functional issues. You’ll also establish
controls, runbooks, and quality mechanisms to ensure consistent execution and audit
readiness, while coaching and developing the execution team.
This role is ideal for a strong operational leader who thrives in ambiguity, can balance
competing priorities, and enjoys driving clarity, accountability, and continuous
improvement across teams.
Key Responsibilities
Own operational performance for assigned divisions, including SLA, quality,
throughput, and stability
Serve as the primary operations partner to Buying and Buying Ops teams
Translate business needs into clear execution plans and priorities
Allocate capacity and rebalance workloads across L2/L3 teams, including peak
periods
Lead complex exception resolution and cross-functional escalations; ensure
closed-loop outcomes
Establish and maintain runbooks, controls, and quality mechanisms to ensure
consistent execution
Identify process gaps and improvement opportunities, partner with Product, Tech,
and Ops Enablement on solutions.
Job Requirements
Graduate with 4–7 years of experience in operations or program management
(retail or merchandising preferred)
Self-starter with strong analytical, decision-making, and organization skills. Must
be able to prioritize effectively
Proven ability to lead workstreams and influence without direct authority
Strong stakeholder management and expectation-setting skills
Data-driven approach to prioritization, capacity planning, and decision-making
Clear, structured communication across technical and non-technical partners and
teams
Preferred
Experience partnering with Product and Tech teams on process or tooling
improvements
Exposure to quality improvement frameworks (Lean, Six Sigma)
Experience leading weekly or monthly business reviews using metrics and
insights
