About the team

The OpenAPI team works on Etsy’s public OpenAPI provided for 3rd party developers. We build and maintain technical capabilities designed to make it easier for 3rd party developers to integrate with our API and build apps for Etsy users. We also work closely with various product teams at Etsy to expose new features on our team’s platform.

The team consists of one product manager, one engineering manager, and 6 backend engineers. Our needs are always evolving to match the changing landscape of Etsy, and we value collaboration immensely.

About The Role

You will work on a variety of back-end projects to improve the developer experience of our public API. This might include a sandbox environment, webhooks, API key rotation, or versioning. You will contribute directly to these projects along with your teammates and will participate in code and design reviews and maintain high standards of code quality.

Requirements

  • Experience collaborating with a remote team.
  • A track record of writing high quality production code, demonstrating strong software engineering and coding skills.
  • Experience with object-oriented software languages. The majority of work developed will be in PHP.
  • Experience building and maintaining public REST APIs and related technical capabilities.
  • Experience using observability tools to monitor API usage and related metrics, such as Grafana and Big Query.

The interview process will be a 30‑45 minute manager screen with behavioral questions and then a 45‑60 minute technical deep dive interview where we’ll ask the candidate questions about API design and about past projects they have worked on.
