Qualifications:
APRN:
Graduate from an accredited nursing program with at least a Master’s in Nursing plus three (3) years of pediatric nursing experience.
Current Arkansas RN License.
National Certification in Acute Care Pediatrics.
Must be eligible for a prescriptive authority certificate.
PA:
Graduate from an accredited physician assistant program defined by the Arkansas State Medical Board, plus three (3) years of experience with pediatric patients.
Current Arkansas Physician Assistant license.
Must be eligible for a prescriptive authority certificate.
Additional Information:
Responsibilities:
Daily management of pediatric patients across all surgical subspecialties: primarily pediatric surgery, orthopedics, and otolaryngology.
Provide comprehensive care of inpatients throughout their hospital course, respond to consult requests from other inpatient services and from the emergency department, and participate as an active member of the trauma team, including resuscitation and subsequent management.
Plan and prescribe treatment according to approved protocols.
Perform assessments/diagnosis/treatment of actual/potential problems with pediatric patients.
Coordinate with inpatient, OR, and Emergency Departments to facilitate flow and efficiency of patient care.
Coordinate follow-up care as well as educate patients and families on diagnosis and treatment plan.
Collaborate with other medical and surgical specialties within the Arkansas Children’s System and in the region to provide the most appropriate care for patients in the facility and across the medical system.
Participates in surgery conferences as indicated based on role; Instructs medical learners at multiple levels (nurses, medical students, residents, physician assistants as appropriate).
Presents clinical cases to members of the research and surgical teams.
Participates in surgical/trauma education and outreach to the local and regional medical community.
Participates in quality improvement activities (i.e., collecting data, suggesting and implementing approved changes, and measuring outcomes) and the development of strategies to improve patient care delivery and cost effectiveness.
Utilizes research to discover, examine, and evaluate knowledge, theories, and creative approaches to health care practice; Critically evaluates existing practice in light of current research findings.
Identifies research questions.
Disseminates relevant research findings through practice, publication, education, and/or consultation.
Performs other duties as assigned.
