Job Description
Entreflow is seeking an experienced and motivated Assistant Controller to join our Finance and Accounting team. This role offers a professional development opportunity for a Senior Accountant ready to take the next step in financial management, providing strategic support across multiple client accounts.
The Assistant Controller plays a key role in ensuring accurate, timely financial reporting, optimising accounting processes, and delivering high-quality financial insights. This position collaborates closely with Controllers, Accounting Technicians, and other team members to provide exceptional service to clients and drive operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage day-to-day and month-end accounting operations for assigned client accounts, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Assist the Controller with financial analysis, interpreting results, and making recommendations to support client business decisions.
- Prepare, review, and analyse monthly financial statements and reports ahead of client meetings.
- Present financial results and insights to clients, highlighting trends, risks, and opportunities.
- Develop and monitor client budgets, forecasts, and KPIs to ensure alignment with business objectives.
- Coordinate sales tax filings and collaborate with external tax specialists for year-end processes.
- Manage third-party reporting requirements as needed (e.g., lenders, investors, regulatory bodies).
Operational Excellence
- Ensure consistent application of Entreflow’s accounting standards, internal controls, and operational policies.
- Perform monthly file reviews to verify accuracy and identify areas for improvement or standardisation.
- Lead initiatives to optimise and automate client accounting workflows, improving efficiency and data integrity.
- Support onboarding of new clients, setting up proper bookkeeping structures and integrating them into Entreflow systems.
- Provide technical accounting support and guidance to team members.
- Champion the adoption and effective use of technology tools to enhance accounting processes.
Leadership & Team Development
- Act as a liaison between Controllers, bookkeeping staff, and senior leadership to ensure accurate and timely deliverables.
- Mentor and provide guidance to junior accounting team members, supporting professional growth and high-quality work output.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of internal processes, templates, and reporting tools.
- Participate in initiatives that enhance standardisation, efficiency, and client satisfaction.
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including cloud bookkeeping or controllership.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline.
- CPA designation or active pursuit required.
- Proven experience managing multiple clients, month-end close processes, and financial reporting.
- Strong knowledge of Canadian accounting standards (ASPE/GAAP), internal controls, and compliance requirements.
- Advanced proficiency in accounting software and automation tools (QuickBooks Online, Dext, Plooto, etc.) and strong Excel skills.
- Ability to learn new technologies and train peers to maximise efficiency.
- Excellent communication skills, able to explain financial concepts clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
