Assistant Controller - Real Estate


Rapidly growing real estate private equity firm is seeking an experienced Assistant Controller to support corporate and property-level accounting across a national portfolio of over 3,000 units including a joint venture platform. This role offers significant exposure to fund accounting, financial reporting, debt compliance, and cross-department collaboration.


Responsibilities:



  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements at both the property and fund levels, including variance analyses.

  • Support senior leadership in daily general accounting operations and oversight of a small accounting team.

  • Identify key financial issues and communicate insights to the executive team.

  • Partner with Asset Management and other teams to consolidate financial information at the corporate level.

  • Monitor debt agreements and ensure lender compliance.

  • Assist with cash management, including preparing monthly cash flow projections.

  • Support the annual budgeting process and related financial planning activities.

  • Assist with annual audits, investor reporting, and accounting system enhancements.

  • Maintain and strengthen internal controls and corporate compliance processes.

  • Mentor junior accounting staff and contribute to a high-performance accounting environment.


Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting

  • 5+ years of real estate accounting experience, multifamily preferred

  • CPA preferred

  • Strong experience preparing monthly financial statements, variance analyses, and management reporting.

  • Ability to build and refine financial reporting systems and processes.

  • Solid understanding of GAAP and relevant tax regulations.

  • Knowledge of AP, AR, payroll, and general accounting functions.

  • Experience with Rent Manager and/or QuickBooks Online a plus

  • Proven ability to produce accurate, timely work in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
