Role: Assistant Editor – Newsgathering / Input (Digital)

Role Overview:

The Assistant Editor – Newsgathering/Input will be responsible for strengthening ABP Desam’s newsgathering ecosystem across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. This role demands strong editorial judgment, deep political and ground networks, and the ability to drive breaking news, exclusives, and high-quality inputs at speed. The incumbent will also take complete ownership of niche digital ground events, including curation, speaker outreach, and stakeholder management.

Key Responsibilities:

Newsgathering & Editorial Input

• Build, manage, and scale a strong newsgathering network across AP and Telangana
• Ensure timely receipt of breaking news, exclusive stories, and high-impact inputs
• Cultivate and manage a robust pool of contributing authors, stringers, and on-ground reporters
• Vet, verify, and fact-check all inputs to maintain ABP Desam’s editorial credibility
• Coordinate closely with the newsroom to ensure fast, accurate, and platform-ready story flow

Network & Relationship Management

• Develop and maintain strong relationships with political stakeholders, newsmakers, government sources, and influencers
• Act as a key editorial interface for political and administrative sources in the region
• Ensure consistent access to exclusive stories, quotes, and ground intelligence

Digital Events & Ground Initiatives

• Take end-to-end ownership of niche digital and ground events led by ABP Desam
• Curate event themes, identify relevant topics, and conceptualise event narratives
• Identify, cultivate, and manage speakers, panelists, and guests
• Coordinate guest logistics, stakeholder communication, and on-ground execution
• Strengthen ABP Desam’s brand presence through high-impact, well-curated events

Leadership & Editorial Ownership

• Guide and mentor newsgathering teams and contributors on editorial standards
• Ensure alignment with ABP Network’s editorial values, tone, and compliance frameworks
• Demonstrate high ownership, decisiveness, and ability to operate under pressure

Minimum Skills Required:

• 10 years of relevant experience in digital or broadcast newsrooms
• Strong understanding of AP & Telangana politics, governance, and regional dynamics
• Proven experience in breaking news handling and exclusive story development
• Excellent source cultivation and people management skills
• Sharp editorial judgment and strong fact-checking discipline
• Experience in planning and executing ground events or editorial forums
• Ability to work in a high-pressure, fast-paced digital newsroom environment
