Job Description
Job Summary
The Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for planning, optimizing, and improving piston manufacturing processes, ensuring high-quality output, cost efficiency, and adherence to safety and compliance standards. The role involves hands-on experience with machining, forging, casting, and assembly processes commonly used in piston production.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Process Engineering & Optimization
Develop, implement, and optimize manufacturing processes for piston machining, finishing, and assembly.Analyze cycle times, reduce waste, and drive continuous improvement using Lean, Kaizen, and Six Sigma principles.Create and update process flow diagrams, SOPs, work instructions, and PFMEAs. 2. Manufacturing Operations Support
Provide day-to-day support to production lines to achieve productivity, quality, and efficiency targets.Troubleshoot process deviations, quality issues, and equipment failures.Collaborate with maintenance and quality teams for root-cause analysis and corrective actions. 3. Tooling, Fixtures & Equipment
Design and develop jigs, fixtures, cutting tools, and gauges for piston manufacturing.Work with vendors on procurement, trials, and validation of new tools or machines.Ensure proper calibration, maintenance schedules, and capability studies for equipment. 4. Quality & Compliance
Ensure manufacturing processes comply with ISO/TS standards and internal quality systems.Conduct capability studies (Cp, Cpk), MSA, and periodic validations of critical processes.Support new part development (PPAP/APQP) and documentation. 5. Cost & Productivity Improvement
Identify and implement cost-reduction initiatives related to materials, tooling, manpower, scrap, and rework.Improve OEE, yield, and machine utilization through data-driven decision making. 6. Cross-Functional Collaboration
Coordinate with R&D, Quality, Maintenance, and Supply Chain teams for new product introductions (NPI).Support pilot runs, trials, and engineering changes related to piston designs or manufacturing methods. Education / Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, Automobile Engineering, or Experience. working extensively on AutoCAD and 3D CAD software like CREO for tooling/fixture design and process engineering. Skills
Strong knowledge of piston manufacturing processes—machining (CNC/lathe), forging/casting basics, honing, coating, and finishing.Experience with CNC programming, process validation, and tooling design.Proficiency in CAD tools (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar).Hands-on experience with Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies.Familiarity with quality tools: APQP, PPAP, PFMEA, Control Plans, SPC, MSA.Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.Ability to work in fast-paced production environments.
