Assistant Manager – Process Quality (Weld Shop – Axle Products)

Location: Gujarat Plant – VeeGee Auto Components
Experience: 8 – 12 Years
CTC Band: Up to 7.2 LPA

Role Objective

Drive zero-defect manufacturing in the Axle Weld Shop by strengthening in-process quality controls, weld integrity standards, and root cause elimination – directly reducing rejection %, rework cost, and customer complaints.

Key Result Areas (KRAs)

1. Process Quality Ownership – Weld Shop

   • Ensure adherence to weld quality standards for Axle components (MIG/TIG/Robot weld lines).

   • Monitor critical weld parameters: penetration, bead profile, fusion strength, distortion control.

2. Rejection & Rework Reduction

   • Drive reduction in internal rejection and weld defects (Porosity, Cracks, Lack of Fusion, Undercut).

   • Implement corrective actions to lower rework hours and scrap cost.

3. Root Cause & CAPA

   • Lead RCA using 8D / Why-Why / Fishbone for quality failures.

   • Ensure closure of CAPA with measurable improvement in defect trends.

4. Process Audits & Compliance

   • Conduct layer process audits, weld quality audits, and periodic SOP compliance checks.

   • Ensure alignment with ISO/TS & customer-specific quality standards.

5. New Product & Process Validation

   • Support APQP activities for new axle components.

   • Validate weld process during pilot runs and PPAP stages.

6. Data Monitoring & Reporting

   • Track daily quality KPIs:

     • Weld defect ppm

     • Internal rejection rate

     • Rework hours

     • First Pass Yield (FPY)

   • Share weekly trend reports with Production & Quality Head.

Required Skill Set

• Strong exposure to Weld Shop Quality for Axle or heavy fabricated components

• Sound knowledge of:

  • Welding defects & inspection techniques

  • Process capability studies (Cp, Cpk)

  • ISO/TS standards

  • Quality tools – 7 QC Tools, 8D, SPC

• Experience in auto ancillary or Tier-1 manufacturing environment

Qualification

Diploma / BE – Mechanical / Production / Metallurgy

Success Metrics (Performance Indicators)

• Reduction in weld rejection % by minimum 20% YoY

• Improvement in FPY by minimum 15%

• Zero repeat customer complaints from weld-related issues
