Job Description
We are looking for a skilled Project Engineer to support the delivery of smart metering and AMI (Advanced Metering Infrastructure) deployment projects across utility networks. The ideal candidate will have a strong engineering foundation, experience with smart metering systems, and a solid understanding of utility operations, telecommunications, and IoT-based infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the end-to-end delivery of AMI/smart metering projects, from design and planning through execution and handover.
- Coordinate technical activities across metering, communications (RF mesh, PLC, cellular), head-end systems, and MDMS (Meter Data Management Systems).
- Collaborate with OEMs, vendors, and utility stakeholders to ensure seamless integration of AMI hardware and software.
- Develop technical documentation including design specs, test plans, BoMs, and system integration guides.
- Support installation, commissioning, and acceptance testing of smart meters and network components (repeaters, data concentrators, etc.).
- Conduct site surveys, RF planning, and coverage validation for smart metering network deployment.
- Monitor project timelines, deliverables, and risks, and coordinate field teams and subcontractors to meet rollout targets.
- Ensure compliance with utility standards, data security policies (e.g., DLMS/COSEM, IEC 62056), and regulatory requirements.
Provide technical support for issue resolution, troubleshooting, and optimization of deployed systems.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electronics, Telecommunications, or Instrumentation Engineering.
- 5–8 years of experience in utility projects, preferably in AMI, smart metering, or IoT-based utility systems.
- Knowledge of smart metering technologies, communication protocols (RF Mesh, GPRS, NB-IoT, PLC), and network planning tools.
- Familiarity with AMI system components (HES, MDMS, meter firmware, DLMS/COSEM).
- Experience in project coordination, vendor management, and field deployment oversight.
- Strong analytical and documentation skills; proficiency in MS Office, AutoCAD, and project tracking tools (e.g., MS Project, Jira).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with large-scale AMI rollout programs for electric, gas, or water utilities.
- Understanding of cybersecurity in AMI systems and smart grid environments.
- Exposure to utility IT/OT integration projects.
- Hands-on experience with meter testing, QA processes, or working with national metrology institutes.
