Our client, a growing and well-respected commercial general contractor in the Charlotte market, is seeking an experienced Assistant Project Manager to join their team. This full-time, direct hire position is ideal for a construction professional with prior commercial GC experience who is ready to take on increased responsibility while supporting interior upfit and light commercial projects from preconstruction through closeout.

The Assistant Project Manager will support all phases of commercial construction projects, including planning, execution, and closeout. This role works closely with Project Managers, subcontractors, and field teams to ensure schedules are maintained, scopes are coordinated, and projects are delivered on time and within budget. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, and capable of working independently while contributing to a collaborative project team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with planning, coordination, and execution of interior upfit and light commercial construction projects.
  • Support project sequencing and subcontractor scheduling; assist with schedule updates, forecasting, and interpretation.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors, vendors, inspectors, and internal teams to meet project milestones.
  • Track project progress, schedules, RFIs, submittals, and deliverables.
  • Identify potential project risks or issues and assist in developing effective solutions.
  • Maintain accurate and organized project documentation, reports, and logs.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with project stakeholders, including owners, architects, and subcontractors.
  • Demonstrate leadership, accountability, and sound judgment in fast-paced construction environments.
  • Perform additional duties as needed to support successful project delivery.
  • Qualifications

  • Previous experience working for a commercial general contractor required (interior upfit and/or light commercial preferred).
  • Strong understanding of commercial construction processes, project sequencing, and subcontractor coordination.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Professional demeanor with strong leadership qualities and emotional maturity.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Reliable transportation required.
  • Ability to provide a resume outlining relevant commercial project experience.
