We have a unique opportunity for a Function Manager of Design – primary and Civil to join us on a permanent full-time basis and lead a highly experienced and technical multi-disciplinary team (approx. 40). You will play a central role in shaping the engineering designs for substation programs across renewables, battery storage and net-zero initiatives. This position reports to the Head of Design and Engineering Services and is positioned as a Senior level in our organisation. This role can be based either at our Haymarket Sydney office or Newcastle Head Office with some travel in between.
Key responsibilities
The primary focus is to plan and balance technical resources against current and future work programs to ensure project deliverables can be met. Lead and guide a skilled group of primary engineers and designers/ drafters and oversee and provide technical expertise across design concepts. 70% of this role is function and individual Leadership including staff development and succession planning and 30% technical engineering, design oversights and project management.
Leads effective work planning and continuous improvement to maximise the functions business performance.
Oversee the design development of projects in accordance with the brief for both electrical and mechanical engineering, survey, civil and structural engineering and building services site inspections.
Successful oversight of development and design for inception stages of capital works projects with regular project management updates.

Tertiary qualifications in Electrical Engineering and eligibility for chartered membership of Engineers Australia or equivalent.
Proven extensive experience in design and project managing complex utility projects.
Technical Engineering and Design skills and experience working as a designer or technical engineer.
The ability to influence outcomes and strong stakeholder management skills to confidently represent the overall team in technical project forums.
Demonstrated leadership experience ideally across a multi-disciplinary team.
