About our Team



Cell Press, part of Elsevier's STM Journals, collaborates with researchers to publish impactful scientific discoveries through rigorous peer review, ethics, and reproducibility. We support over 50 hybrid and open access journals, contributing to advancements in science, health outcomes, and equitable publishing. We are expanding our team of scientific editors for iScience, an interdisciplinary open access journal covering life, health, physical, earth, and social sciences. We collaborate closely with authors, editors, reviewers, and societies to ensure the integrity and impact of the published work. Through innovation in editorial workflows and publishing technology, we help global research communities discover, evaluate, and disseminate knowledge that advances science and improves lives.







About the Role



We are looking for a curious, motivated scientist with broad interests across the life sciences to join us as an Associate Scientific Editor. This role is ideal for someone passionate about supporting clear, timely, and inclusive scientific communication. It offers an exciting opportunity to begin or grow an editorial career while helping shape the direction and success of a leading interdisciplinary journal.

Responsibilities

+ Assess the novelty and impact of the submitted research papers

+ Oversee the peer review process for direct submissions and transferred contributions

+ Establish relationships with researchers

+ Recruit exciting research papers for submission to iScience

+ Commission review articles

+ Represent the iScience and Cell Press at scientific meetings, and visit research institutions

+ Work collaboratively with academic editorial board members and internal editors

+ Build effective working relationships with colleagues across Cell Press and beyond











Requirements

+ PhD in a life science discipline and post-doctoral experience is a plus

+ Deep knowledge and research experience in one of the following areas- Neuroscience or Cell Biology. Experience in statistical analysis will be an added advantage

+ Broad scientific interests, a desire to learn, and the ability to think critically about a wide range of scientific issues. As an associate scientific editor, you will need to develop an understanding of the diverse areas covered by an interdisciplinary journal, as well as be open to exciting emerging topics

+ Great interpersonal skills:

+ Collaboration and networking are core aspects of the job

+ Strong ability to communicate clearly in a customer-focused role and attentive with good written and verbal communication skills in English

+ Strong ability to organize, prioritize, and focus

+ Creativity, willingness to experiment, and desire to improve

+ The ability to work well in a team which is spread across geography, time zones and willingness to travel
