Cell Press, part of Elsevier's STM Journals, collaborates with researchers to publish impactful scientific discoveries through rigorous peer review, ethics, and reproducibility. We support over 50 hybrid and open access journals, contributing to advancements in science, health outcomes, and equitable publishing. We are expanding our team of scientific editors for iScience, an interdisciplinary open access journal covering life, health, physical, earth, and social sciences. We collaborate closely with authors, editors, reviewers, and societies to ensure the integrity and impact of the published work. Through innovation in editorial workflows and publishing technology, we help global research communities discover, evaluate, and disseminate knowledge that advances science and improves lives.







About the Role



We are seeking to add a dynamic and enthusiastic Associate Scientific Editor to our Health and Translational Sciences team who shares our passion for helping scientists publish their work in a straightforward and timely way.  iScience (https://www.cell.com/iscience) is an exciting Cell Press broad scope open access journal publishing in the life, health, environmental and physical sciences. This job offers a unique opportunity to start your editorial career with an exciting journal, which you can help shape and develop to ensure its scientific and commercial success.

Responsibilities

+ Assess the novelty and impact of the submitted research papers

+ Oversee the peer review process for direct submissions and transferred contributions 

+ Establish relationships with researchers 

+ Recruit exciting research papers for submission to iScience and fostering communities of interest

+ Represent the journal and Cell Press at scientific meetings, and visits to research institutions   

+ Work collaboratively with academic editorial board members and editors 

+ Build effective working relationships with colleagues across Cell Press and beyond 











Requirements

+ PhD in a health/life science discipline is a must. We are particularly interested in candidates with a background in Psychology and/or Clinical Neuroscience.

+ Previous editorial experience is desirable but not required. 

+ Applicants with a professional background such as running a research group or working in industry are also encouraged to apply.  

+ Broad scientific interests, a desire to learn, and the ability to think critically about a wide range of scientific issues. As an associate scientific editor, you will need to develop an understanding of the diverse areas covered by an interdisciplinary journal, as well as be open to exciting emerging topics

+ Strong ability to communicate clearly.  

+ Strong ability to organize, prioritize, and focus. 

+ Creativity, willingness to experiment, and desire to improve. 

+ The ability to work well in a diverse team is crucial for the position.
