Job Summary:

As an Attorney in our Asset Management Group Transactional Legal Team, you’ll play a key role in the continued success of The Standard’s Asset Management Group, whose products include employer-sponsored retirement plans, stable asset investment products and individual annuities. You’ll provide legal support across a broad spectrum of business clients, utilizing your strong collaboration skills to provide advice and counsel to key stakeholders, legally compliant products for our clients, and the achievement of the Company’s business goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide advice and counsel to a wide variety of business stakeholders, including Sales, Operations, and Client Services to ensure compliant retirement plan designs and strategies.
  • Produce quality, defensible contractual language that accurately reflects stakeholder’s intent.
  • Act as a proactive, strategic business partner by gaining and maintaining a thorough understanding of potential legislation and regulatory developments and regularly communicating updates to stakeholders.
  • Partner with stakeholders to gain insight into specific business requirements and formulate accurate, comprehensive advice that supports informed decision-making.
  • Act as a trusted partner by identifying potential risks and outcomes, demonstrating a holistic understanding of business goals and risks. Consistently demonstrate understanding of and motivation to achieve business goals in a legally defensible manner. 
  • Skills and Background You’ll Need:

    Education: Juris Doctor (JD) and active bar membership required

    Experience:

  • Minimum of two years of experience in relevant areas of the law, or the equivalent combination of education & experience.
  • Understanding of retirement plans industry, focusing on retirement plan expertise and regulatory structure (ERISA, Tax Code, securities law, state insurance law - preferred).
  • Experience in group annuity/insurance product development a plus.
  • Strong communication skills, including ability to provide clear, comprehensive legal advice and delivery of presentations that are understandable to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience working closely with internal clients as a strategic partner to identify and prioritize business needs and assess and communicate risk.

  • Eligibility to participate in an incentive program is subject to the rules governing the program and plan. Any award depends on a variety of factors including individual and organizational performance.

  • The actual compensation for this role will be based on a combination of education and experience, knowledge and skills, position budget, internal equity, and market data.

    Salary Range:

    $127,500.00 - $186,750.00
