Audit Associate – US Not-for-Profit (NFP Audit)

About the Role
We are looking for an Audit Senior / Senior Associate to join our US Audit – Not-for-Profit (NFP) practice in India. This role will exclusively support US-based Not-for-Profit clients, including foundations, associations, NGOs, and charitable organizations.
The position involves end-to-end execution of US NFP audit engagements, close coordination with US engagement teams, and hands-on responsibility across planning, execution, and reporting.
Key Responsibilities
US NFP Audit Execution
- Execute audits of US Not-for-Profit entities in accordance with US GAAP, and AICPA standards
- Perform audits of:
- Net assets (with & without donor restrictions)
- Contributions, grants, pledges, and donor restrictions
- Functional expense allocation
- Program service revenue
- Endowments and restricted funds
- Independently handle high-risk audit areas
- Design and execute audit procedures based on engagement risks
- Prepare and review workpapers with strong documentation standards
Planning & Reporting
- Assist in audit planning, risk assessment, and test plan development
- Perform preliminary and substantive analytical procedures
- Prepare and review US GAAP financial statements and disclosures
- Draft audit deliverables and support final issuance
- Coordinate with US onshore teams to resolve review comments
Client & Team Interaction
- Communicate audit status, issues, and observations to US seniors/managers
- Supervise and review work performed by junior team members
- Provide guidance, on-the-job training, and review feedback
- Ensure adherence to timelines and engagement budgets
Required Skills & Expertise
- Strong understanding of US Not-for-Profit accounting and auditing
- Hands-on experience with:
- US GAAP for NFPs
- Fund accounting concepts
- Donor-restricted vs unrestricted funds
- Ability to prepare and review complex audit documentation
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Experience working in US shift and with US clients/teams
Qualifications
- 3+ years of public accounting experience in US Audit
- Prior experience in Not-for-Profit (NFP) audits is mandatory
- CPA / CPA Pursuing / CA preferred
- Proficiency in MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Experience with US audit tools (CaseWare, CCH, ProSystem, or similar) is a plus
