Job Description

Automation Mechanical Design Engineer II

The Automation Mechanical Design Engineer II is responsible for designing, developing, and implementing mechanical solutions for automated and semi-automated manufacturing equipment within the AMD group. The role focuses on creating reliable mechanical designs for fixtures, tooling, and automated systems while integrating sound engineering principles into production processes.

Working closely with Controls, NPI, Manufacturing Engineering, and Operations, the engineer ensures all designs meet functionality, safety, cost, and schedule requirements. The position requires strong CAD proficiency, solid mechanical engineering fundamentals, problem‑solving skills, and hands‑on support during fabrication, assembly, and equipment commissioning.

Key responsibilities include generating and updating 3D models, detailed drawings, and BOMs; selecting materials and tolerances; applying GD&T; and ensuring manufacturability. The engineer interprets technical drawings and requirements, supports concept development and design optimization, and provides mechanical input during FAT/SAT, tryouts, and debug activities. Additional duties include managing documentation and drawing releases, coordinating with suppliers and machine shops, and resolving technical issues.

The role also contributes to continuous improvement by enhancing design standards, CAD practices, equipment methodologies, and overall design quality, while maintaining proper revision control and adherence to AMD standards and safety regulations.
