About Role

As a Backend Developer (SaaS) at Lastmil, you will be a core builder of the platform from day one. This is not a maintenance role. You will design and implement backend systems that power real-time dispatch, routing workflows, delivery tracking, and usage-based billing.

You will work closely with the Engineering Lead and Founder to ship a production-ready SaaS platform, make architectural decisions, and solve real operational problems in last-mile logistics.

This role is ideal for someone who wants ownership, impact, and startup-level responsibility, not just tickets and features.

What You Will Do

Core Platform Developement

• Build scalable backend services for a multi-tenant SaaS platform
• Design and implement RESTful / API-first services
• Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code

Real -Time Systems &Integrations

• Build event-driven or real-time services for: Live driver tracking, Status updates & Dispatch events
• Integrate with mapping and routing APIs (e.G., Mapbox or similar), Payment gateways & Third-party systems and client APIs

Usage-Based Billings& SaaS

• Implement usage tracking and credit consumption logic
• Build backend systems for, Subscription management, Pay-as-you-go billing & Invoicing and usage visibility
• Ensure accurate and auditable metering

Infrastructure, Performance& Realiability

• Work with cloud services (AWS / GCP / Azure)
• Optimize APIs and services for:
• Implement logging, monitoring, and alerting
• Ensure data security, backups, and fault tolerance

Collaboration & Product Thinking

• Work closely with frontend engineers on API design
• Collaborate with product and operations to refine workflows
• Contribute to system design and architectural discussions
• Participate in code reviews and technical decision-making

Must Have

• 3+ years of experience in backend development
• Strong experience with one or more backend languages:
• Experience building RESTful APIs and backend services
• Familiarity with relational and/or NoSQL databases
• Experience working with cloud platforms (AWS / GCP / Azure)
• Understanding of multi-tenant SaaS architecture
• Comfortable working in an early-stage startup environment
• Strong problem-solving and debugging skills

Nice to Have

• Experience with logistics, last-mile, dispatch, or fleet systems
• Familiarity with real-time systems (WebSockets, queues, pub/sub)
• Experience with usage-based billing or metered pricing
• Experience with mapping or routing APIs
• Prior startup or founding-team experience
