KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain open and effective communication with families, supervisor and BDS Team members
  • Provide hands-on educational activities and support during therapy sessions
  • Commitment to an enhanced quality of life for clients
  • Ability to make appropriate decisions independently and adapt materials to meet each child’s need(s)
  • Foster a person & family-centered support approach to service that creates a safe and inclusive learning environment
  • Facilitate and support families and clients with behavioural and development goals for their child, by implementing strategies thought and outlined in the goal plan
  • Implementation of Augmentative & Alternative communication, if required and overseen by the Communication team
  • Be comfortable with 1:1 support to the client to implement the recommendations and strategies of the BDS therapist team working with the child (SLP/Psychologist/OT)
  • Demonstrate therapy strategies in alignment with Registered Therapist, when family has been introduced
  • Provide an engaging and positive environment for clients to thrive within
  • Support age-related developmental growth by encouraging participation in either household or community activities to promote independence
  • Team development within individual teams, across teams, inter-agency, intra-agency, and the community
  • Participate in self-development activities to ensure ongoing learning and to maintain high standards of professionalism
  • Maintain all documentation as required:
  • Daily specific program reporting
  • Session and case note
  • Document and monitor children’s progress
  • Incident Reports, as required; and
  • Knowledge in Service Provider Program Plans and Individual Service Plans, review and document the progress of individual Service Plans, including short-term and long-term goals
  • Attend all required meetings and planning sessions, as requested
  • Ensure full understanding and working knowledge of the BDS orientation documents
  • Abide by, maintain awareness of, and fully adhere to Agency policies and procedures; while working in accordance with applicable Acts, Accreditation Standards, and funder requirements
  • WHAT YOU BRING TO THE ROLE:

  • Takes accountability to ensure all mandatory certifications and training are kept current
  • Dedication to professional development and continuous and self-motivated learning
  • Child Development and Behavioural Diploma or similar education or equivalent experience
  • Experience working with and promoting the growth and development of a child/youth, is an asset
  • Current Standard First Aid CPR/AED – Level C, or willing to complete prior to commencing work
  • Behavioural Aide experience
  • Proficient in MS Office, with particular emphasis on Microsoft Word and Outlook
  • Ability to identify issues requiring advocacy and advocate on behalf of clients and people with disabilities in general
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently within client homes and community settings
  • Ability to travel to all quadrants and communities within Calgary City Limits year round
  • Provide proof of business automobile liability coverage with a minimum of 2 million liability, or be willing to obtain
