Job Description

We are seeking a BIM Manager with experience in transportation infrastructure consulting to join our Rail & Transit Sector. This role is ideal for professionals from engineering consulting firms who are accustomed to supporting multiple projects, clients, and delivery teams while driving consistent digital standards across a portfolio of work.
The BIM Manager will lead the adoption, integration, and governance of BIM and digital delivery practices across rail and transit projects, embedding BIM workflows into established production environments using Open Roads Designer, Open Rail Designer, Civil 3 D, Auto CAD, and Micro Station.
The role combines strategic leadership with hands-on project support, ensuring alignment with internal standards, client requirements, and agency-specific CAD/BIM mandates.
You will work closely with project managers, discipline leads, clients, and external partners to support high-quality, compliant, and efficient digital delivery in a fast-paced consulting environment.
Key Responsibilities
Project & Client-Focused Information Management
- Provide BIM and information management leadership across multiple concurrent rail and transit projects.
- Support Project Information Managers (PIMs) at project startup and throughout delivery, including development of BIM Execution Plans (BEPs) aligned with ISO 19650.
- Serve as a technical advisor to project managers and clients on BIM scope, execution strategies, and information requirements.
- Collaborate with clients, joint venture partners, and subconsultants to:
- Define project-specific Information Management Plans
- Establish Project Information Requirements, including Exchange and Asset Information Requirements
- Configure and manage Common Data Environments (CDEs)
- Lead model coordination, review, and data validation processes
- Ensure compliance with client, agency, and contractual digital delivery requirements
- Translate evolving client and agency BIM standards into practical, scalable project workflows.
Consulting-Oriented Technical & Operational Leadership
- Maintain and enhance firm-wide BIM standards that support consistent delivery across diverse clients and project types.
- Develop project-specific BIM and CAD standards, templates, and workflows to meet contract and agency requirements.
- Provide hands-on technical support to project teams to resolve modeling, coordination, and digital delivery challenges.
- Assess and improve CAD/BIM readiness across projects, including tools, workflows, and staff capabilities.
- Support production of contract documents, digital deliverables, visualizations, and simulations as required by project scope.
Training, Mentorship & Change Management
- Lead BIM adoption initiatives for designers and engineers transitioning from traditional CAD to BIM-enabled workflows.
- Mentor project teams in best practices for information management, model development, and coordination.
- Deliver project onboarding and just-in-time training tailored to specific client, agency, and project requirements.
- Support development of PIM and Model Manager roles across the consulting practice.
Quality Assurance & Risk Management
- Perform BIM and CAD audits to ensure compliance with BIM Execution Plans, client standards, and contractual obligations.
- Oversee digital QA/QC processes to reduce rework, mitigate delivery risk, and ensure consistency across projects.
- Maintain strong file management and data governance practices within project workspaces.
- Coordinate with project and task managers to integrate BIM QA/QC into overall project delivery.
Project Delivery & Multi-Disciplinary Coordination
- Provide direct technical leadership on priority and complex projects.
- Lead or support coordination of multidisciplinary BIM models in consultant and joint-venture environments.
- Interface regularly with clients, agency representatives, and external consultants on BIM-related matters.
- Support project mobilization, including workspace setup, standards deployment, and onboarding documentation.
- Train staff on efficient production and submission of deliverables, including hardcopy, PDF, batch plotting, and electronic transfers.
Qualifications & Experience
- Proven experience in a consulting or professional services environment, supporting multiple US or international R+T infrastructure projects and clients.
- In-depth knowledge of BIM information management and ISO 19650 principles.
- Minimum 5 years of experience as a BIM Manager, Project Information Manager, or Model Manager.
- Minimum 8 years of overall experience in BIM/CAD management and digital delivery.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, Information Management, or related field preferred.
- Proficiency with CDE platforms and project-based document management systems.
- Strong working knowledge of BIM-enabled transportation design workflows.
- Hands-on experience with Open Roads Designer, Open Rail Designer, Civil 3 D, Auto CAD, and Micro Station.
- Experience with Bentley Open Buildings is a plus.
- Rail & Transit consulting experience preferred; roadway, highway, or utility consulting experience also valued.
- Demonstrated ability to develop, implement, and enforce CAD/BIM standards across diverse projects.
- Strong mentoring, training, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Familiarity with rail and transit agency standards and client-driven digital delivery requirements.
- Strong verbal and written (English) communication is required. Excellent organization, and leadership skills, with the ability to operate effectively in a matrixed consulting environment.
