Job Description
The Diplomacy Training Program (DTP), based at UNSW Sydney, is an independent charity, committed to advancing human rights through building the knowledge, skills and networks of advocates across the Asia-Pacific region. For 35 years, DTP has delivered practical advocacy training to human rights defenders, Indigenous peoples’ rights advocates, and civil society leaders. DTP’s alumni networks of nearly 4,000 individuals work to promote and protect human rights in more than 90 countries. Learn more at **************. We are seeking up to three new Directors to join our Board from 2026. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to an organisation that strengthens movements for justice, equality, and Indigenous rights across the region.
Who We’re Looking For
We welcome expressions of interest from individuals who bring skills and experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Fundraising, philanthropy and grant applications
- Australian not-for-profit governance
- Human rights training and advocacy
- Indigenous Peoples’ rights and capacity-building
We particularly encourage applications from Indigenous Australians and members of other Indigenous communities in the Asia-Pacific region. DTP is Sydney-based, but we welcome applications from candidates across Australia and are open to international candidates. This is an unpaid position.
Key Responsibilities
As a Director, you will:
- Provide strategic oversight and governance in line with Australian not-for-profit standards.
- Contribute expertise to strengthen DTP’s programs and partnerships.
- Support funding and fundraising initiatives to sustain and grow our impact.
- Champion DTP’s mission and values in your networks.
Board meetings are held quarterly, with additional participation in committees or events as required.
