This is a remote position. Bookkeeper (Music Royalty & Publishing Accounting) Schedule: 10 AM to 2 PM Monday to Friday Sydney Time Overview We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Bookkeeper with specialized expertise in music royalty accounting and publishing administration. This role is responsible for tracking, reconciling, and reporting all income streams while ensuring accurate royalty and publishing records for artists, writers, and stakeholders. The ideal candidate is proactive, highly organized, and confident working with complex music industry data. Key Responsibilities 1. Royalty Accounting Set up and maintain royalty accounts for artists, producers, featured collaborators, and writers. Apply contract terms, royalty splits, and deal structures accurately. Calculate royalties and generate periodic royalty statements. 2. Publishing & Song Administration Maintain an up-to-date song catalogue, including correct splits and ownership details. Track and reconcile publishing income across relevant sources. 3. Income Tracking & Reconciliation Track and reconcile income from distributors, DSPs, YouTube, sync licensing, neighbouring rights, and other revenue sources. Match payments to statements, contracts, and internal records. Prepare detailed reconciliation and variance reports. 4. Recoupment & Advances Track artist and project advances, recoupable expenses, and cost allocations. Maintain accurate recoupment schedules and monitor progress. 5. Reporting & Communication Prepare periodic financial summaries, royalty statements, and reconciliation reports. Support the team with statement walkthroughs, clarifications, and internal inquiries. Identify discrepancies, missing income, or reporting issues and follow up as needed. Deliverables Initial system setup and financial health check. Ongoing royalty and publishing administration. Accurate and timely royalty statements. Reconciliation reports for all income streams. Ad-hoc analytical and administrative support. Requirements Proven experience in music royalty accounting and/or publishing administration. Strong understanding of royalty splits, deal terms, PROs, and digital distribution platforms. High numerical accuracy and exceptional attention to detail. Advanced spreadsheet skills (Excel or Google Sheets). Familiarity with royalty software and accounting tools is an advantage.
