Overview

The Department of Surgery is a multi-faceted organization in a complex organizational structure. It is a department within the School of Medicine with the attendant responsibility for patient care, medical education and research. The Chair of the department is also the Chief of Surgical services for the hospital and, as such, has a broad range of activities including administration of the OR; allocation of scarce OR resources; adequacy of surgical beds; and credentialing of hospital surgical staff.The department includes full-time faculty members in the sections of: general & bariatric surgery, pediatric surgery, plastic surgery, surgical oncology, transplant surgery, trauma & acute care surgery. The department faculty provide surgical care to the people of eastern North Carolina, including pre-operative and post-operative care. The department provides surgical education to medical students and residents every day of the year. The department also has a vibrant research program including funded grants and clinical trials. The employees in the department support the clinical, education and research work of the department. To accomplish these tasks requires a highly competent, appropriately classified, and an adequately paid staff.
Job Duties ECU Health Physicians and the Department of Surgery at the ECU Brody School of Medicine located in Greenville, North Carolina, are seeking a fellowship-trained Breast Surgeon to join a thriving division of surgical oncology. The candidate will contribute to a busy and growing multidisciplinary breast program that encompasses all aspects of treatment for benign and malignant breast conditions as well as management of high-risk patients. With recent growth in the practice, the breast program is anticipated to see over new breast patients annually.


The successful candidate will join an active, collaborative clinical, teaching and research program within the Division of Surgical Oncology consisting of four surgical oncologists, two colorectal surgeons, two breast surgeons and one PhD faculty.


The Department of Surgery has an excellent general surgery residency program with five categorical residents in each year (with approval for six starting in ) who are competitively prepared for fellowships, academic positions, and direct entry into private practice. The Brody School of Medicine matriculates 92 students each year and is approved for class size expansion to students per year upon completion of the new medical education building in August .

ECU HEALTH CANCER CARE AT THE EDDIE AND JO ALLISON SMITH TOWER
ECU Health Cancer Care is ECU Health’s system-wide approach to eliminating cancer throughout eastern North Carolina, one patient at a time.   • MD or DO from an appropriately accredited institution and conferred by the time of hire, or completed foreign medical education accepted and recognized for ECFMG Certification.

  • Board-eligible or board-certified in General Surgery by the American Board of Surgery.

  • Completion of an SSO-approved Breast Surgical Oncology fellowship or Complex Surgical Oncology fellowship is required.

  • Board-eligible or board-certified in General Surgery by the American Board of Surgery.
