Position Information Job Type Non-Faculty Position Title Chief of Staff and Transformation Officer Position Number E Department Office of the President Location Morehouse College - Atlanta, GA Position Summary The Chief of Staff provides leadership and operational oversight for the President in advancing the College’s mission and goals. Serves as the primary liaison between the President and the Board of Trustees, senior leadership, key stakeholders, and faculty and staff, working to ensure the constituencies are brought together to build unity and to prioritize and execute the President’s vision and goals. Ensure accurate, proper, and timely flow of information and that the President’s time is prioritized in line with the most significant and strategic matters. Provide oversight and direction for the President’s office and respond to internal and external crises and challenges. With the College’s Marketing and Communications team, develop, coordinate, and assess the President’s most visible communications. Support the President with fundraising initiatives. Travel with and support the President at internal and external events.
Reports directly to the College President and serves on the College’s Executive Committee which provides overall leadership to the College. Required Qualifications
  • Bachelors Degree

  • 5 years of experience in higher education, with specific knowledge of HBCUs highly preferred

  • 2 years of exemplary performance in high-pressure work environments
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Certified Manager (CM) from Institute of Certified Professional Managers

  • Certified Executive Chief of Staff (CECS)
  • Preferred Education/Experience Masters Degree Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities • Understanding of critical college functional areas (enrollment, finance, etc.) preferred
    • Executive-level written and verbal communication skills
    • Ability to build bridges within Morehouse and with third parties
    • Ability to build trust-based relationships with, and catalyze action from senior executives
    /organizational leadership
    • Ability to manage and lead multiple projects simultaneously/project management skills
    • Flexibility to identify and manage problems as they arise
    • Capacity to think strategically and translate strategic plans to concrete plans
    • Additionally, the individual must be a self-starter, who is able to problem-solve and take on a

  • May speak on behalf of the President and the College at designated on or off campus events.

  • Represent the views of the President and introduce and promote strategic initiatives and projects to a variety of internal and external stakeholders, including members of local, regional and state government, alumni, Board of Trustees, and faculty and staff.

  • Manage communications, in coordination with Press Secretary and the Division of Marketing, Communications, and Admissions, with internal and external stakeholders and interested parties to increase and maintain visibility of the College’s projects and programming.

  • Manage and provide real-time event support to promote the College within the community, respond to inquiries about the College, produce written materials for approval.

  • Respond on behalf of the President to inquiries from, and/or issues involving, students, employees, and members of the public.

  • Work with campus leadership to oversee complex, high-priority projects with responsibility for outcomes.

  • Develop and review strategies to ensure College projects align with the strategic plan and desired outcomes.

  • Conduct special administrative and research studies on a wide range of subjects related to the overall management and operations of the College, as well as special projects and programs initiated by the President.

  • Develop and deliver complex presentation materials including charts, graphs and other data representations and make recommendations for new operational strategies, programs and/or revisions to existing policies to senior leadership and other stakeholders.

  • Provide ongoing analysis and delivery of projects to maximize use of resources including time, people, and money. Monitor project costs and performance, service levels and other metrics required to ensure project goals and objectives are met.

  • Monitor and supervise the administrative staff work .

  • Collaborate and provide guidance to direct reports as designated by the President.

  • Manage the budget of the President’s office, and special projects and follow up on budgetary issues and actions.

  • Participate in accreditation activities.

  • Participate in the College Emergency Management Team

  • Perform other duties as assigned.
