The Mannik & Smith Group (MSG) is seeking a Civil Engineer to support our Civil Engineering team in Canton, Michigan. This role offers the opportunity to work on a variety of site development and civil design projects, with responsibilities tailored to your level of experience.
The Mannik & Smith Group (MSG) is seeking a Civil Engineer to support our Civil Engineering team in Canton, Michigan. This role offers the opportunity to work on a variety of site development and civil design projects, with responsibilities tailored to your level of experience.
Whether you’re early in your career or bring several years of experience, this position provides exposure to grading, drainage, stormwater, and permitting work while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare engineering plans and technical drawings using AutoCAD (Civil 3D preferred), including site layout, grading, and drainage systems
- Design and model stormwater retention and detention systems to manage runoff and meet regulatory requirements
- Develop grading plans that optimize land use while ensuring soil stability and proper drainage
- Compile engineering documentation and permit submittals including stormwater management, erosion control, geotechnical coordination, and site development approvals
- Ensure designs meet local, state, and federal regulations and environmental standards
- Prepare and maintain design reports, calculations, budgets, and project documentation
- Communicate with clients, municipalities, and regulatory agencies as part of the permitting and review process
- Collaborate with internal teams including Survey, Geotechnical, Environmental, and Construction Services
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
At least 1 year of relevant experience (open to all experience levels)- Proficiency in AutoCAD; Civil 3D experience preferred
- Basic understanding of site development, grading, drainage, and stormwater design
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented, multidisciplinary environment
- Motivation to grow technically and professionally
