Civil Engineer-in-Training (EIT)
Job Summary
We are seeking a motivated Civil Engineer-in-Training (EIT) to join a growing multi-discipline firm that provides both construction and engineering design services. This role will support stormwater, septic, and small-scale civil site development projects for commercial and light industrial applications. The EIT will work closely under the mentorship of a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) with the expectation of developing toward PE licensure and increased technical responsibility over time.
This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career civil engineer to gain hands-on design experience, exposure to permitting and fieldwork, and long-term professional growth within an integrated engineering and construction environment.
Responsibilities
Assist in the design and analysis of stormwater management systems, septic systems, and minor civil/site development projects. Support preparation of grading plans, drainage calculations, reports, and stormwater control layouts under PE supervision. Help ensure project designs comply with local, state, and federal codes and permitting requirements. Participate in site visits and field inspections to observe construction progress and support implementation of designed systems. Coordinate with internal team members, including drafters, project coordinators, and construction personnel. Communicate with clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies alongside senior engineers. Utilize AutoCAD and related design software to develop and revise engineering drawings. Learn and apply best practices in stormwater and civil engineering with the goal of progressing toward independent responsibility and PE licensure. Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program. Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification Proficiency or working familiarity with AutoCAD; willingness to learn additional design and analysis tools. Strong willingness to learn, take direction, and grow under the mentorship of a licensed PE. Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team-based environment. Long-term interest in pursuing Professional Engineer (PE) licensure. #LI-Onsite
