The Role
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Clinical Coding Coordinator to join our Health Information Services (HIS) team at Macquarie University Health. Reporting to the Manager, Health Information Services, this permanent full-time role is responsible for providing education, mentoring, audit oversight, and technical leadership to the Clinical Coding team, with the objective of improving coding accuracy, data integrity, and performance outcomes.
In this role, you will apply your advanced knowledge of ICD-10-AM, ACHI, ACS, casemix and DRG assignment to support high-quality inpatient coding across Macquarie University Hospital and Clinics. You will coordinate and undertake coding audits, analyse trends, deliver education programs, and support continuous improvement initiatives, including the Trainee Clinical Coder Program when required.
This position plays a critical role in supporting hospital funding, performance measurement, research, and evidence-based decision-making within Australia’s first fully integrated academic health sciences precinct.
Key Accountabilities (including but not limited to)
Accurately classify (code) diseases and procedures for inpatient episodes using 3M Codefinder, ICD-10-AM, ACHI, ACS, coding authorities and National Coding Standards.
Direct, coordinate, and undertake regular coding and DRG audits to ensure data quality, compliance, and alignment with current best practice.
Develop, implement, and maintain a yearly coding audit plan at both facility and individual coder levels, providing recommendations for continuous improvement.
Analyse and present audit outcomes, coding trends, and education findings to internal and external stakeholders.
Assist, mentor, and support clinical coders with coding accuracy, complex coding queries, and follow-up with clinicians.
Design, revise, and deliver customised education and training programs, including coordination and delivery of the Trainee Clinical Coder Program when required.
Monitor and distribute daily coding and auditing priorities based on Work In Progress (WIP) Coding reports and outstanding PICQ.
Contribute to the development of coding targets and workforce planning, ensuring resources are positioned to meet monthly inpatient separation KPIs.
Assist with and deliver education sessions for clinicians relating to clinical documentation and coding requirements.
Coordinate and facilitate regular clinical coder meetings.
Regularly report to the Manager, Health Information Services on coding performance, audit outcomes, risks, and emerging trends.

You are a highly experienced clinical coder with advanced technical expertise and a strong interest in education, audit, and continuous improvement. You are confident mentoring others, presenting findings, and working collaboratively with clinicians and multidisciplinary stakeholders.
You bring strong analytical and organisational skills, excellent communication capability, and the ability to balance hands-on coding with coordination, audit, and education responsibilities in a fast-paced tertiary healthcare environment.
