Cloud Engineer – HPC Compute

**Job Description**

The High-Performance Computing (HPC) team is responsible for providing application and infrastructure solutions that support complex, compute intensive workloads, parallel filesystems, low latency networks, artificial intelligence (AI), and machine learning (ML). The successful candidate will partner with scientists, engineers, and other HPC infrastructure and application experts to provide HPC solutions that fully leverage the computing resources.

**Responsibilities**

+ Collaborate with colleagues in HPC Computing, Information Technology, Subsurface Platform, and Upstream/Downstream business units to design and deliver HPC solutions in Microsoft Azure.
+ Optimize and automate operations support activities.
+ Effectively and efficiently troubleshoot and resolve system problems, including analyzing current application requirements and performance.
+ Ensure all technical solutions are aligned with the vision, principles, architecture, and standards defined by the relevant architecture teams while ensuring information protection and data privacy.
+ Effectively align, collaborate, and build relationships with peers, company leadership, subject matter experts and HPC system users.

**Selection Criteria**

+ Technical Knowledge and Skills- The preferred candidate will have knowledge and experience in Linux, Cloud (preferably Microsoft Azure), and storage system administration experience in a large-scale enterprise environment **plus** one or more of the following areas: scripting skills (e.g. Python, shell, Ansible), HPC job scheduling systems (e.g., Slurm or PBS), parallel file systems (e.g., Lustre, Weka), and Azure VM Scale Sets. Hands-on experience with Ansible, Azure Active Directory, Microsoft Active Directory, and MS Office products.

+ Project Execution and Troubleshooting - Demonstrated ability to develop execution plans to meet business objectives; identify and mitigate risk; anticipate, recognize, and resolve operational problems; and determine root causes of incidents and create solutions.
+ Technology Deployment- Demonstrated ability to document processes; learn and apply knowledge of new products and emerging technology; leverage technology practices, standards, and procedures; apply IRM policies, standards, and controls; manage mid-sized infrastructure evaluation and deployment projects; and lead introduction of technology.
+ Communication and Teamwork- Ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner, consider the views and concerns of others, achieve objectives through teamwork, and deliver consistently on commitments.

Chevron ENGINE supports global operations, supporting business requirements across the world. Accordingly, the work hours for employees will be aligned to support business requirements. The standard work week will be Monday to Friday. Working hours are 8:00am to 5:00pm or 1:30pm to 10:30pm.
