Job Description

Citizens is seeking a proactive, high-energy, strategic communications practitioner to lead Executive Communications. This VP/Director-level role is responsible for designing and executing integrated communications strategies that elevate the voice of our CEO and key senior executives, enhance executive visibility across internal and external audiences, and shape the bank’s reputation as a bold, forward-looking industry leader. Reporting to the Head of Executive Communications, this leader will partner closely with the CEO and senior executives to advance Citizens’ enterprise narrative, develop unique thought leadership opportunities and align colleagues around the bank’s strategic priorities and growth initiatives.

The Communications Director will work in close partnership with colleagues across all lines of business, functions, and regions to ensure unified and impactful programming.

Key Responsibilities

  • Thought Leadership & VisibilityDevelop and execute high-impact, integrated thought leadership programs, including targeted speaking opportunities, for the CEO and other senior executive leaders, aligning messaging with business goals and Citizens’ bold change initiatives.Create compelling content for external speaking engagements, media interviews, community events, social media, and internal communications.Drive senior executive visibility through storytelling that positions Citizens as a leader in transformation and innovation.
  • Strategic Messaging & Executive SupportServe as a trusted advisor to senior executives, crafting authentic, consistent, and energizing messaging for diverse audiences.Prepare speeches, presentations, and executive communications that translate complex topics into clear, engaging narratives.Collaborate with Marketing, Events, and Public Affairs to amplify executive reach and impact.
  • Transformation Communications Integrate transformation themes into CEO communications, ensuring alignment with Citizens’ “Reimagine the Bank” initiative and Transformation Office.Partner with the Transformation Office and senior leaders to connect CEO messaging to the bank’s evolving culture, strategy, and priorities.
  • Media Relations Support CEO media relations efforts, securing strategic placements and amplifying key messages nationally and in priority markets.Develop and maintain relationships with key media contacts and identify opportunities for earned coverage that advances key narratives and delivers against business priorities.
  • Internal Communications & Leadership EngagementEstablish and execute internal programming to drive colleague alignment around the CEO’s vision and corporate strategy.Plan and develop content for bi-yearly leadership meetings, including senior executive presentations, outside speaker, development workshops and content connection points across senior executives. 
  • Qualifications

  • Proven leadership in strategic storytelling, CEO/executive communications, and thought leadership.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and verbal communication skills; ability to translate complex topics into clear, engaging content.
  • Strong media relations experience, including pitching, securing coverage, and managing interviews/events.
  • Outstanding organizational, project management, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or related field required.

    Schedule : M-F 8-5 in office 4 days a week Westwood MA 

    Pay Transparency 

    The salary range for this position is $137,000 - $175,000 per year, plus an opportunity to earn an annual discretionary bonus. Actual pay is based on various factors including but not limited to the work location, and relevant skills and experience.
