Role overview
The Community host shall be the heartbeat of the hostel experience, responsible for creating a welcoming, social, and memorable environment for guests. This role focuses on guest interaction, community building and conducting curated local experiences, including walks, trails, treks,events and social activities. The Community host ensures guests don’t just stay at The Hosteller they connect, explore, and belong.
Responsibilities
- Be the primary on-ground point of contact for guest interaction and social engagement
- Conduct & operate daily experiences such as local walks, food trails, treks, sightseeing tours, and in-house activities, as planned
- Proactively create a sense of community by introducing guests, encouraging conversations, and facilitating group interactions
- Represent the local culture, stories and hidden gems, acting as a local ambassador
- Coordinate with front desk teams to align guest itineraries and experience schedules
- Ensure guest safety and comfort during hosted activities, walks, and outdoor experiences
- Gather informal guest feedback and insights to help improve guest experiences
- Host in-house events such as game nights, bonfires, music sessions, or workshops
- Create and support content moments (stories, reels, photos) in collaboration with guests
- Uphold The Hosteller’s brand values by delivering warm, inclusive and authentic hospitality
Qualifications
- 0–3 years of experience in hospitality/travel/tourism, adventure, events or community roles
- Backgrounds such as hostel hosting, trekking/outdoor guiding, experiential travel, event hosting, or backpacking are strongly preferred
- Comfortable interacting with diverse, international and domestic guests on a daily basis
- Strong communication skills in English and Hindi; knowledge of local language(s) is a plus
- Natural people-person with high energy, empathy, and confidence in group settings
- Familiarity with the local destination, culture, trails and experiences or strong willingness to learn quickly
- Physically comfortable leading walks, short treks, and outdoor activities
- Basic understanding of guest safety, group handling and situational awareness
- Comfortable using smartphones and social media for user generated content (UGC)
- Flexible to work evenings, weekends and peak travel seasons
