About the Team

The Compliance Unit, within the Office of General Counsel, coordinates and oversees enterprise-wide compliance at UTS. Operating in a dynamic and highly regulated sector, our team is committed to raising the bar in identifying and managing legislative compliance risks across the university.

About the Role

In this varied role, you will collaborate with senior leaders, professional, and academic staff to:
• Identify and respond to emerging compliance risks
• Translate legislation and standards into practical systems and controls
• Champion a shift from traditional compliance to a risk-based, proactive governance approach.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Monitoring changes in legislation, regulation, and government policy affecting the University
• Supporting the integration of new obligations into UTS’s Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) system
• Partnering with compliance obligation owners to assess risks, define accountability, and implement controls
• Administering and enhancing the GRC system, including user support, training, and reporting
• Developing dashboards and reports for senior leaders, governance bodies, and regulators
• Designing and delivering compliance training and awareness initiatives
• Supporting the development and continuous improvement of UTS’s Compliance Policy and Framework
• Building strong relationships across Faculties and business units to foster a positive compliance culture.

About You

You’ll thrive in this role if you have:
• Strong stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to work with diverse priorities
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with sound judgment and discretion
• Analytical and strategic thinking, with a practical, solution-focused approach
• Experience working with compliance, governance, or risk frameworks in complex organisations
• Confidence working with senior leaders and contributing to governance-level reporting
• An understanding of university structures, policies, procedures, and systems (desirable). 

Key Selection Criteria

Please outline in your cover letter how you meet the following criteria:

1. Proven track record in governance, policy compliance planning and implementation. 
2. Experience in the application of policy development and legislative requirements.
3. Strong stakeholder and relationship management capabilities including the ability to negotiate with a range of stakeholders to drive business engagement and collaboration. 
4. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to act with diplomacy, confidentially and discreetly in appropriate situations. 
5. Capacity for systematic thinking and ability to analyse information and situations, identify issues, assess impacts and risk and make recommendations based on sound rationale. 

Remuneration & Benefits

Base Salary Range: $107,402 - $118,813 pa (HEW 7)

This role attracts 17% superannuation (pension) in addition to the base salary.

This position is full-time, and appointment will be made on a continuing basis.
