- 8+ years of relevant experience in automotive plastics and rubber component engineering
- Experience in Tier-1 or Tier-2 automotive supplier environment preferred
- Experience in Design & development of Plastics & Rubber parts.
- Hands on Experience in 3D Design Packaging in UGNX / CATIA.
- Good knowledge in design basics, vehicle packaging studies, Architecture, and statutory requirements etc.,
- Cross functional experience in Design
Key Responsibilities:
Own EE Wiring Mounting Troughs, channels, grommets and protection components for global harnesses. Responsible for standardization, manufacturability validation and library control.
Troughs & Grommet Design & Development
- Design and develop grommets for wiring harnesses , ensuring proper sailing, strain relief, and durability.
- Perform packaging studies to validate grommet fitment in vehicle body openings and tailgate areas.
- Select appropriate materials and geometry for grommets to meet environmental and mechanical requirements.
- Conduct DFMEA for grommet-related risks and implement corrective actions.
- Validate grommet performance through DVP&R , including water ingress, vibration, and thermal tests.
- Collaborate with suppliers for prototype development , tooling feasibility, and cost optimization.
- Ensure compliance with OEM standards , statutory requirements, and safety norms for grommet design.
- Involve in APQP, PPAP, and quality documentation review.
Wiring Harness Integration
- Integrate grommets into harness routing and packaging layouts using UG NX / CATIA .
- Support complexity reduction and harmonization of grommet designs across platforms.
- Review AMPS sheets and assembly feasibility for grommet installation at plants.
- Manage engineering change requests (ECR/ECN) related to grommet design.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work with body engineering teams for hole size and location standardization.
- Work with virtual analysis teams (CAE, Moldflow etc.,) for design robustness
- Coordinate with manufacturing and quality teams for PSO and FPSO sign-off.
- Support VAVE activities for cost reduction without compromising performance.
