Position Overview
The CNC Designer is responsible for creating precise and functional designs for components or products to be manufactured using CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machines. This role involves interpreting client or project requirements, producing accurate CAD/CAM drawings, and ensuring compatibility with CNC machining processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop detailed CAD (Computer-Aided Design) and CAM (Computer-Aided Manufacturing) models for CNC machining.
- Interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications to produce accurate design outputs.
- Program CNC machines using G-code or relevant CAM software.
- Collaborate with production teams to ensure designs are manufacturable and meet quality standards.
- Optimize designs for efficiency, material usage, and machine capabilities.
- Conduct test runs and make adjustments to CNC programs as needed.
- Maintain organized records of design files and revisions.
- Stay updated with new CNC software tools, machining techniques, and industry trends.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Diploma/Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Technology, or related field.
- Proficiency in CAD/CAM software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Mastercam, or Fusion 360.
- Strong knowledge of CNC machine operations, tooling, and materials.
- Understanding of G-code programming and CNC machining processes.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and tolerances.
- Attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and precision orientation.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Preferred Experience
- Minimum 1 - 2 years of experience in CNC design and programming.
- Experience in relevant industry (metal fabrication, woodworking, jewellery manufacturing, etc.).
- Knowledge of CNC machine maintenance and troubleshooting.
Work Environment
- Workshop or manufacturing plant setting.
- Interaction with engineers, machinists, and quality control teams.
- Occasional overtime to meet project deadlines.
