Construction Lead – Power Evacuation


Reports to: Project/Construction Manager


Location: Construction sites, India


Job Summary


The Lead – Power Evacuation will be responsible for overseeing the design, planning, and construction of power evacuation systems for renewable energy projects. This includes HV & EHV substations and transmission lines (110 kV / 220 kV / 400 kV), 33 kV distribution lines, unit substations, and associated auxiliary systems.


The role involves leading site engineers and managing EPC contractors to ensure safe, timely, and cost-effective delivery of transmission infrastructure. In certain projects, the position will require oversight and management of EPC contractors responsible for execution. The role demands strong expertise in electrical systems, project management, and compliance with safety and regulatory standards.


Additionally, the role entails providing technical support to the Asset Management team during the project’s operational phase.


Key Responsibilities

  • Project Planning & Execution

    a. Conduct feasibility studies for new projects and identify risks and opportunities.

    b. Plan, schedule, and coordinate HV & EHV substations, transmission lines for power evacuation, and 33 kV lines from project inception through grid interconnection and commercial operation.

    c. Oversee the design of transmission lines, substations, and 33 kV lines, ensuring compliance with applicable industry standards, regulations, and safety requirements.

    d. Review and interpret Single Line Diagrams (SLDs), layout drawings, engineering documents, OEM installation manuals, and protection schemes; coordinate with the Engineering team for clarifications as required.

    e. Develop scopes of work, material plans, budgets, and timelines in collaboration with relevant departments to align with overall project schedules.

  • Construction & Safety Management

    a. Ensure all construction activities comply with WHSEQ standards and regulatory requirements.

    b. Prepare and present regular progress reports, project updates, and documentation to internal and external stakeholders.

    c. Coordinate with internal teams (Engineering, Procurement, Regulatory Affairs, and WHSEQ) to ensure electrical works comply with grid codes and utility interconnection requirements.

    d. Manage relationships with external stakeholders, including government agencies, regulatory authorities, service providers, and community representatives.

    e. Liaise with government utilities and authorities such as CEIG, CEA, RLDC, SLDC, MRT, etc., for drawing approvals, inspections, and grid commissioning.

    f. Actively participate in Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT/FTC), trial runs, and commissioning of HV & EHV substations, transmission lines, 33 kV lines, and bay extensions (if applicable), including coordination with RLDC.

  • Risk, Contract & Team Management

    a. Identify project risks and develop mitigation plans in coordination with relevant teams.

    b. Assign tasks, provide technical guidance, and conduct performance evaluations for team members.

    c. Foster a collaborative, high-performance, and innovative work environment.

    d. Stay updated on advancements in power systems, CEA regulations, STU/CTU guidelines, green corridor developments, and industry best practices.

    e. Develop and implement maintenance strategies to optimize electrical infrastructure performance during operations.

    f. Diagnose and troubleshoot line faults, outages, and system disturbances.

    g. Work closely with the WHSEQ team to evaluate and monitor suppliers’, vendors’, and service providers’ qualifications and performance.

    h. Ensure a safe work environment with zero tolerance for unsafe acts, near misses, or safety violations.

    i. Support WHSEQ initiatives by ensuring processes, systems, and awareness programs align with organizational goals and regulatory requirements.

    j. Manage contracts effectively, including delays, non-conformances, and formal communication with contractors.

    k. Oversee contractor billing, measurements, and certifications.

    l. Manage and evaluate contractual claims efficiently.
  • Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline; Master’s degree is an advantage.

  • 15–20 years of experience in power systems, including transmission line and substation design and construction, distribution lines, and Solar PV AC/DC systems.

  • Familiarity and working in renewable energy projects will be an added advantage.

  • Strong knowledge of high-voltage systems up to 400 kV and medium-voltage electrical systems.

  • Proven leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

  • Hands-on experience in site testing and commissioning activities.

  • Familiarity with applicable codes, standards, regulatory approvals, and utility requirements.

  • Strong project management capabilities, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource planning.

  • Proficiency in MS Office, basic AutoCAD, and other relevant engineering and project management tools.
