Purpose and Scope of the Job



Plans, directs, administers and supervises activities for surgical patients. Reports to the Medical Director on matters relating to the operation of the patient care division and maintain contact with the Head of Department. Strictly adheres to privileges in alignment with license to practice in the country.



Main Duties and Responsibilities/Performance Standards

Ensures implementation of the Ministry of Health regulations, the Hospital Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules and Regulations and the Department Policy and Guidelines.

Diagnosis and treatment of patients referred to department and responsible to run his / her own clinic.

Receives referrals and consultations from other disciplines, according to his/her specialty.

Investigates, diagnoses and treats medically and / or surgically all patients referred to him / her with conditions problems appropriate to his specialty  anwill  determine  the  need   for  clinicainvestigations  and physiological testing appropriate to making his diagnosis, and will undertake the management of the patient's condition, with appropriate follow up.

Performs all surgical procedures according to the clinical privileges granted to him/her.

Provides supervision to the department registrars working in OR, ER and ward.

Directs, plans, manages, and coordinating operations for the patient care activities.

Handles administrative and operational matters relating to the activities of the division and consults with Head of the Department as required.

Responsible to provide the highest quality of service to the patients under his/her care within the resources provided by the program.

Maintains the highest professional standard of documentation in line with policies and procedures and internationally accepted standards.

Reviews out patients summaries and shall prepare reports and statistical analysis as required of him; such reports will be prepared in a timely manner in accordance with the standards within the Department.

Keeps current with new procedures and techniques in the field of his /her specialty.

Required to be involved in the departmental Performance Improvement activities.

Participates in providing education and support for all junior staff in the department and supports continuing medical education, providing teaching materials as part of the professional development of the staff.

Participates in committee membership, if assigned

Responsible to report any occurrence not consistent with the operation of the Clinic or standard of service for patients, employees or visitors and situations which put patients, staff and visitors at risk of injury or other harm.

Participates in organizational performance improvement activities.

Maintains strictest confidentiality.

Co-ordinates and exercises overall professional control over the activities of Medical Registrars for ensuring that sound administrative and professional standards of medical practice are maintained.

Provides overall responsibility for all medical in-patients, out patients and emergencies. Conducts regular ward rounds on all patients.

Answers calls from the wards regarding conditions related to care given to the patient.

Accepts all other additional assignments found necessary by the Head of Department.



Qualifications, Competencies and Skills



Education



 



Phd /Royal College/Fellowship/Membership



Experience



 



Minimum 3 years post  Phd /Fellowship/Membership experience in the specialty



Licensure



 



Valid  Kuwait License



Language



 



Well versed in English and Arabic



Computer Proficiency



 



Good computer skills

Knowledge of Required Organizational practices / patient safety standards.

Command over professional code of ethics , medical bylaws

Knowledge of evidence based Age specific/ Population specific patient care clinical guidelines accepted by the hospital

Culturally competent ( Kuwaiti patients’ culture and beliefs)

AHA certified BLS/ACLS/PALS/ALSO/NRP as applicable per training policy.
