Position Overview


The Controller will create and maintain the end-to-end accounting function for multiple small businesses, ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and a disciplined monthly close process. This role is hands-on and highly detail-oriented, responsible for building scalable processes that prevent errors, ensure compliance, and support growth for our clients. The ideal candidate is proactive, operationally focused, and able to tighten financial workflows while providing insights that help guide strategic decisions.

This position requires authorization to work in the U.S. without sponsorship, now or in the future. 


Key Responsibilities


Accounting Operations (End-to-End Ownership)



  • Oversee and execute all day-to-day accounting activities, including A/P, A/R, general ledger, payroll, banking, and cash management.

  • Ensure all transactions are recorded accurately, timely, and in compliance with GAAP.

  • Maintain chart of accounts, reconcile all balance sheet accounts, and ensure the integrity of financial data.


Monthly Close & Financial Reporting



  • Drive a timely, accurate, and repeatable monthly, quarterly, and annual close process.

  • Prepare and review financial statements, management reports, and variance analyses.

  • Identify and resolve discrepancies proactively to ensure nothing is missed.

  • Improve speed and accuracy of close through automation, SOPs, and better documentation.


Process Building & Internal Controls



  • Develop and implement scalable accounting processes, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and internal controls to support growth and reduce risk.

  • Continuously evaluate current workflows and introduce improvements to prevent errors, strengthen compliance, and improve efficiency.

  • Ensure data integrity and safeguard company assets through proper controls and segregation of duties.


Financial Planning Support



  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow planning.

  • Provide financial insights and analysis to leadership to support decision-making.

  • Partner with operations and other departments to ensure alignment between finance and business drivers.


Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration



  • Build and develop a high-performing accounting function as the company grows.

  • Collaborate with leadership, department heads, and external partners to support strategic initiatives.

  • Communicate complex financial information in a clear, concise manner for non-financial stakeholders.


Qualifications & Skills


Education & Credentials



  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.

  • CPA, CMA, or MBA strongly preferred.


Experience



  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including several years in a leadership or controller-level role.

  • Proven experience building processes, improving controls, and running a full close cycle.


Technical Skills



  • Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP.

  • Proficiency in modern accounting systems and advanced Excel skills.

  • Experience creating SOPs, workflows, and control environments.


Soft Skills



  • Highly detail-oriented with a strong sense of ownership and accountability.

  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.

  • Strong communication skills (English) and comfort working cross-functionally.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet tight deadlines without sacrificing accuracy.

  • Ability to meet and work with operational leaders of multiple companies.
