THE OPPORTUNITY:
We are seeking an experienced Controls Engineer with a focus on Firmware to join our team full-time, based in Lidcombe, office in Sydney, NSW.
This role has responsibility for providing technical support and training to the global engineering, manufacturing and service teams. This role will play a key part in the product development team.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Firmware/Hardware – Deliver trials and project work across multiple platforms, including design, programming, commissioning, PCB prototyping and testing, and embedded software development. Research new technologies, source materials, follow Scott Automation and global standards (AS/NZ, EU, UL), and maintain strong documentation throughout the development cycle.
- Product Development: Provide technical guidance to engineering and production, working closely with the Product & Design team to ensure specifications, quality standards, and testing requirements are met. Build a strong understanding of customer environments to improve product performance, support clear customer communication throughout the development cycle, and assist with on-site commissioning/testing when required.
- Research and development: Contribute to R&D by developing new capabilities and processes, supporting the commercialisation of Scott Automation Robotics technologies, protecting company IP, and delivering projects on time and within budget.
- Training and Team Support: Support the manufacturing team by reviewing technical aspects of manufacturing and assembly, helping guide QA procedures, and assisting with change management when technical product updates occur. Provide training and mentoring to less experienced engineers to support their progression, share best-practice skills, and proactively identify your own development needs with your manager.
TO BE A GREAT MATCH FOR THIS ROLE YOU WILL NEED
- A degree or diploma in Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering or similar.
- 3+ years relevant industrial automation experience and machine design.
- Excellent communication skills and proven ability in following client specifications and proven internal design practices.
- Electronics/PCB design experience
- Competency with embedded design including coding for microcontrollers.
- Competency with PC based programming in C, C#, C++ or other modern language.
- To be customer and results focused, have integrity, and be a proven team-player.
- To have the legal right to live and work permanently in Australia.
