About the role and team
We have an opportunity for a Credit Officer to join our national Finance team, based in our Melbourne office.
The Finance Team at Hall & Wilcox is a team of 38 that provide financial and management accounting, trust accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, banking and practice support functions across the Firm.
Reporting to the Credit Manager, you will have experience in collecting debtors for the firm. Working closely with partners to manage debtors and collections.
This role will form part of the credit control function and will assist with the day-to-day workflow of the team.
You will be responsible for:
- managing debtor collections across the insurance and commercial practices. This includes collections via calls and emails;
- liaising with partners to assist with collection of their clients' outstanding debtors, whilst identifying the best communication method to use given the circumstances;
- resolving client queries;
- assisting the Receipting & Allocation Officer with rectifying unidentified deposits;
- maintenance and improvement of processes and procedures to control financial transactions;
- acting as a back up to the Receipting & Allocation Officers and assist with the following tasks when required:
- Receipting for firm accounts
- Processing client credit card payments
- Resolving client payment queries
- Rectifying unidentified deposits
- Preparing documentation for refunds of duplicate/incorrect payments; and
- ad hoc duties as required from time to time.
About you
You will ideally have the following skills and experience:
- Minimum 3+ years’ experience in credit control, ideally within a law firm or professional services environment;
- Relevant tertiary qualification;
- Proven experience managing high-volume debtor collections and receipting, with a strong track record of reducing debt and maximising cash flow;
- Strong decision-making skills in debt collection, including knowing what information to send, who to send it to, and when to escalate issues;
- Ability to build and maintain strong internal relationships across all levels, coupled with a strong customer service focus;
- Demonstrated ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively within a team.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills;
- Highly proactive approach with excellent organisational skills, including the ability to plan and prioritise effectively;
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, strong attention to detail, and problem-solving ability; and
- High level of enthusiasm, positivity, and resilience.
