Job Description
Role Purpose
The Dean – Academic Affairs is the custodian of academic quality, integrity, and continuous improvement at the University. The role is responsible for ensuring excellence in curriculum design, teaching–learning processes, assessment systems, academic regulations, and compliance with national and international accreditation and ranking frameworks.
The Dean will work closely with Deans of Schools, Registrar, Controller of Examinations, IQAC, and central academic teams to drive a future-ready, outcomes-driven academic ecosystem aligned with the University’s strategic goals.
Key Responsibilities
1. Academic Governance & Policy
- Formulate, implement, and periodically review academic regulations, ordinances, and policies .
- Oversee functioning of statutory academic bodies (Academic Council, Boards of Studies, etc.).
- Ensure consistency and rigor across schools while enabling disciplinary flexibility and innovation.
2. Curriculum Design & Academic Innovation
- Lead curriculum development, revision, and benchmarking against global universities and national frameworks (NEP 2020) .
- Promote interdisciplinary programs, flexible credit structures, minors, electives, and experiential learning .
- Encourage integration of emerging areas (AI, sustainability, data, entrepreneurship, policy, etc.).
3. Teaching–Learning Quality
- Establish systems for faculty teaching effectiveness, peer review, and student feedback .
- Promote innovative pedagogies: flipped classrooms, project-based learning, blended and digital learning.
- Drive faculty development programs in collaboration with HR and Deans.
4. Assessment, Evaluation & Examination Oversight
- Work closely with the Controller of Examinations to ensure: Robust, transparent, and timely assessment processes
- Outcome-based evaluation aligned to learning objectives
- Academic integrity and malpractice prevention mechanisms
5. Accreditation, Rankings & Compliance
- Provide academic leadership for: NAAC, NBA, NIRF, international accreditations (ABET, AACSB, etc.)
- Align academic data, documentation, and processes to ranking and accreditation metrics.
- Collaborate with strategy and analytics teams on continuous improvement tracking.
6. Student Academic Experience
- Oversee academic advising frameworks, progression policies, and academic grievance redressal.
- Ensure smooth academic lifecycle management—from admission to graduation.
- Support inclusive education, mentoring, and student success initiatives.
7. Strategic & Cross-functional Collaboration
- Partner with: Deans of Schools and Departments
- Registrar, COE, IQAC, International Relations, and Digital Learning teams
- Support new program launches, academic scale-up, and global partnerships.
- Contribute to the University’s 5–10 year academic vision and roadmap .
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- PhD in a relevant discipline from a reputed institution.
- Minimum 15–20 years of academic experience , including: Senior academic leadership roles (Dean / Associate Dean / Academic Head / Professor with admin responsibility).
- Strong exposure to academic governance, curriculum frameworks, and accreditation processes .
