Job Description

Design & Digital Experience Lead (UX/UI)

At equ, we design clarity. We help organisations navigate complexity, make confident decisions, and deliver meaningful digital experiences that create real impact.

We’re looking for a Design & Digital Experience Lead to help shape and grow our design practice, lead client engagements, and mentor a talented team of designers. This is a senior, hands‑on role for someone who enjoys moving between strategy, delivery, leadership, and client partnership.

About the Role

As a Designer & Digital Experience Lead (UX/UI), you’ll work closely with senior clients, project teams, and our Head of Strategy to deliver high‑quality UX/UI outcomes that align user needs with business goals. You’ll take ownership of complex engagements, guide teams through ambiguity, and help elevate both the quality of our work and the maturity of design across the organisation.

This role suits someone who is as comfortable facilitating conversations in a boardroom as they are sketching flows, mapping journeys, or refining interfaces.

Build trusted, strategic partnerships with senior client stakeholders, helping shape and deliver digital experience initiatives that improve business performance and customer outcomes.

Lead the successful delivery of client engagements, working closely with Senior Project Managers to ensure projects are well‑initiated, well‑run, and delivered to a high standard.

Take accountability for client‑facing outcomes, including providing quality assurance across UX/UI solutions as a value‑add to project delivery.

Remain hands‑on in the work, leading and contributing to UX/UI activities such as user research, persona development, journey mapping, information architecture, wireframing, prototyping, and UI design.

Balance delivery and commercial responsibility by achieving individual utilisation targets and supporting the team to do the same, ensuring capability and capacity align with business needs.

Stay across all UX/UI trends, tools, and best practices, ensuring equ maintains a standard of optimum quality and continuous improvement across the design practice.

Champion design and creativity throughout the agency, inspiring creative thinking and problem‑solving across all teams.

Partner closely with the Head of Strategy to shape growth plans, support new business opportunities, and contribute to the development and refinement of strategic products and services.

Mentor, inspire, and grow the UX/UI team, leading performance reviews, coaching conversations, and professional development planning.

Support the broader strategic goals of equ by modelling our values, behaviours, and ways of working in everything you do.

This is a full time role, based in our Perth CBD office. We are proud of our hybrid and flexible working model but culture is important to us, so applicants must be able to work from our Perth office some of the time each week.

About You

You’re a designer and a leader. Thoughtful, curious, and experienced. Someone who can zoom in to guide the details and quality of the work, and zoom out to shape direction, confidence, and outcomes for clients and teams.

7+ years’ experience across UX/UI, spanning websites, apps, digital products, and complex ecosystems.

Proven experience leading and mentoring designers, lifting capability, confidence, and quality across a team.

Strength across the full design lifecycle, from discovery and research through to IA, journeys, prototyping, testing, UI, and delivery.

The ability to partner with clients and stakeholders, guiding conversations, shaping direction, and translating complexity into clarity.

A portfolio that demonstrates strong thinking, not just polished visuals, showing real problems solved and measurable outcomes delivered.

Confidence using Figma, Miro, and the broader design toolkit to collaborate, explore, and deliver.

A genuine care for people, quality, and continuous improvement, both in the work and in how teams operate.

You’re someone who brings energy, curiosity, and calm leadership. You care deeply about the craft of design and the impact it can create, and you enjoy helping others do their best work too.

We know that great work happens when people feel supported, inspired, and challenged, so we make sure our team has everything they need to thrive. We value flexibility, creativity, and work‑life balance, offering an environment where you can grow your skills and shape your career in a way that suits you. Whether you’re working from home, in the office, or a mix of both.
