About Organization

Our department is responsible for the development of various devices provided to our customers, including smartphones, mobile routers, and IoT products. This encompasses Rakuten original devices (e.g., Rakuten Mini/Hand/Wi-Fi Pocket/Turbo 5G) as well as products from major manufacturers such as Samsung, Sony, Sharp, and OPPO.

As a Device Technology Lead, you will work closely with device vendors, chipset vendors, network vendors, and potentially other MNOs. Your primary responsibilities will include examining device technology roadmaps and defining/specifying device requirements, with a particular focus on modem technologies.

A central role will be played in managing the process for obtaining Technical Regulations Conformity Certification (GITEKI) based on Japan's Radio Law, conducting RF design technical verification, and optimizing wireless performance.

Job Duties

  • Technology Roadmap Creation:Lead technology discussions with device vendors, chipset vendors, etc., align with Rakuten's network roadmap, and formulate short-to-long term device technology roadmaps.

  • Device Technology Requirement Specification Management:Define and manage device technology requirement specifications based on technology roadmaps, network requirements, and internal service requirements.

  • Technical Lead in Device Projects:Responsible for creating and maintaining device requirement specification documents for device development projects, and leading coordination with internal and external partners (especially device vendors) for each product scope.

  • GITEKI Certification Management:Manage the Technical Regulations Conformity Certification (GITEKI) acquisition process based on Japan's Radio Law, coordinate with certification bodies, develop test plans, and lead conformity assessments.

  • RF Design and Performance Verification:Conduct technical verification of antenna design, RF circuit design, and transmission/reception performance, and lead optimization for Japanese frequency bands (including Sub6 and mmWave).

  • Wireless Performance Evaluation:Supervise performance evaluations in compliance with Radio Law regulations, including OTA (Over-The-Air) testing, SAR (Specific Absorption Rate) measurements, and TRP/TIS evaluations.

    Minimum Qualifications

  • Basic knowledge of cellular communication technology based on 3GPP, GSMA, etc., standards.

  • Knowledge of Japan's Radio Law and the Technical Regulations Conformity Certification (GITEKI) system.

  • Basic knowledge of RF design and antenna design.

  • Understanding of wireless performance evaluation (OTA, SAR, TRP/TIS, etc.).

  • Language: Japanese - Business Level.

    • Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in mobile device development.

  • Advanced knowledge of cellular communication technology based on 3GPP, GSMA, OMA, and Wi-Fi standards.

  • Basic knowledge of OS technologies such as Android and Linux.

  • Practical experience in GITEKI certification projects (application, test witnessing, certification acquisition).

  • Experience using RF design tools (CST, HFSS, ADS, etc.).

  • Experience negotiating with certification testing laboratories (registered certification bodies).

  • RF design and performance evaluation experience for 5G NR (Sub6, mmWave).

  • Measurement and evaluation experience in anechoic chambers.

  • Language: English - Business Level.
