Description Summary This is a mechanic position responsible for maintenance and repair of light- and heavy-duty vehicles and equipment. The position is responsible for all phases of mechanical work and is under the general supervision of the Shop Supervisor and/or his/her designee. Definition and Examples of Work 85% Maintains, repairs, services, and operates all department vehicles and equipment Operate a variety of vehicles, construction equipment (light and heavy), maintenance machinery, and material processing equipment necessary for road construction, maintenance projects, and outside the shop as required. Performs routine to complex maintenance, diagnostics, welding, and repairs on all types of vehicles and equipment to include public safety vehicles, shop, mining, industrial, heavy construction equipment; loaders; dump trucks; and small engine and small equipment. Maintenance may include roadside service using work zone safety equipment. Diagnostics may be routing to technical including mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic. Performs preventative maintenance and organizes the scheduling of maintenance for all light to heavy equipment. Performs work according to service manuals, schematics, and hydraulic flow charts. Tests equipment for proper operation by operating/driving and using test equipment. Complete work area clean-up tasks, general shop clean-up tasks, and maintenance of other department facilities as assigned; assist other mechanics and welders as needed. Maintains awareness of safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe work environment, including properly wearing and using personal safety equipment. Attend training needed to perform the functions of the job such as mine safety training, OSHA, Hazmat. First Aid/ CPR, Defensive Driving. 15% Provide training to new division employees and assign/plan work Trains and coaches' department employees in various work duties including, but not limited to, equipment and vehicle operation/use, maintenance procedures, inspection, and service procedures. Review assigned work for technical accuracy, soundness, and compliance Additional duties may be assigned as business needs require. Requirements Excellent verbal and written English language skills. Excellent interpersonal skills. Proficient in basic computer systems and software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite, email, timekeeping software, work order inputs) Basic understanding of clerical procedures and systems such as recordkeeping and filing. Ability to use welding equipment and tools to fabricate and repair equipment, vehicles. Ability to interpret repair manuals. Knowledge of mechanical repair and maintenance procedures for light - and heavy - duty vehicles and equipment. Knowledge of the use of mechanic shop tools and equipment, including diagnostic equipment. Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Ability to obtain CPR and First aid certifications Ability to obtain Defensive driving certificate Electric over hydraulic certification Airbrake certification, preferred A/C certification, preferred Occasional overtime Occasional travel Subject to call out Regular and reliable attendance onsite at work location
