Job Overview

The Senior News Producer will lead The Free Press Journal’s YouTube and digital video operations, driving editorial strategy, content quality, and audience growth. This role requires strong editorial judgment, leadership capability, and deep experience in digital-first news production. The position will oversee producers, anchors, video editors, and creative teams to deliver credible, engaging, and high-impact video journalism.

Key Responsibilities

Editorial Leadership & Strategy

• Own the editorial vision and daily news line up for YouTube and digital video platforms.
• Identify high-impact stories, breaking news, and trending topics, ensuring relevance, accuracy, and audience engagement.
• Maintain strict adherence to journalistic ethics, fact-checking standards, and editorial guidelines.

Team Leadership & Management

• Lead, mentor, and manage a multidisciplinary team including news producers, anchors, video editors, and voice-over artists.
• Set workflows, production timelines, and quality benchmarks for consistent output.
• Provide editorial and creative direction to ensure clarity, tone, and narrative strength across all video content.

Script & Voice-Over Oversight

• Oversee script development for news videos, explainers, and special features.
• Guide voice-over production, including script approval, tonal direction, and final output quality.
• Ensure scripts and narration align seamlessly with visuals and editorial intent.

YouTube & Digital Video Growth

• Drive YouTube channel strategy, focusing on audience growth, engagement, retention, and content optimization.
• Monitor analytics and performance metrics to refine formats, storytelling approaches, and publishing strategies.
• Collaborate with digital and social teams to maximize reach and discoverability.

Cross-Team Collaboration

• Work closely with reporters, newsroom editors, videographers, and post-production teams to bring stories to life.
• Coordinate with social media and digital marketing teams for content amplification.
• Contribute to long-term planning, special projects, and election or event-based coverage.

Quality Control & Innovation

• Ensure high production values, consistency in storytelling, and brand alignment.
• Experiment with new video formats, storytelling techniques, and platform-specific innovations.
• Continuously improve processes based on audience feedback and industry trends.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in digital news video production.
• Proven experience leading YouTube or digital video news teams .
• Strong editorial judgment and deep understanding of news storytelling.
• Hands-on experience with scripting, voice-over production, and video workflows.
• Strong people-management, communication, and decision-making skills.
• Data-driven mindset with experience using analytics to guide editorial strategy.
• Ability to perform in a fast-paced, deadline-driven news environment.

Preferred Skills

• Experience scaling YouTube news channels/ digital.
• Strong understanding of news landscape and digital audiences.
• Experience with breaking news and live video workflows.
