This is a fully remote position, allowing you to work from home or location of record within the U.S. with no in-office requirements. You must be available five days per week during designated work hours. The work arrangement for this role is subject to change based on business needs and individual performance. This may include adjustments to on-site requirements or schedule expectations, as necessary.


This role requires a technical leader with a strategic mindset, dedicated to delivering scalable, high-quality solutions that meet the needs of our internal application teams and customers across core services powering our Human Capital Management (HCM) solutions. This role will be responsible for leading multiple cloud infrastructure engineering teams, focused on designing infrastructure systems and standards, and/or building and maintaining shared components. You will drive best practices in cloud infrastructure, and ensure efficient execution of the technology roadmap, while working closely with engineering, product management, and business stakeholders in corporate development and procurement to support innovation, scalability, and customer impact.

Primary Responsibilities:

+ Lead and evolve the company wide public cloud technology strategy, in collaboration with senior leaders and key cross-functional business stakeholders.

+ Ensure the value prop of Cloud technology is well articulated within our overall Hybrid Cloud Strategy.

+ In partnership with Finance, Product and Engineering, mature and refine our FinOps practice to ensure infrastructure costs are optimized and aligned to where customers get value, across both Public Cloud and on-premise infrastructure.

+ Drive the adoption of containers (where appropriate) while advocating for cloud native designs

+ Collaborate with Business Development to support M&A research, technology due diligence, and integration strategies.

+ Organize and manage Product Engineering teams to maximize efficiency, ensuring resource allocation aligns with budget constraints and business goals.

+ Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement, whilst maintaining a high level of performance and accountability within the Public Cloud team.

+ Lead the execution of complex projects, ensuring quality, scalability, and timely delivery.

+ Stay informed on industry trends, evaluating new technologies and methodologies to enhance development efficiency and product capabilities.

+ Ensure adherence to Paylocity security standards, compliance frameworks, and regulatory requirements.



Education and Experience



+ BS degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field.

+ 10+ years of experience in the SaaS software space using both public and private cloud infrastructure. Human Capital Management domain experience preferred but not required.

+ 5+ years of experience leading multiple engineering teams, ideally in a high-growth or enterprise-scale environment.

+ Hands-on experience with AWS (or another major Cloud Service Provider). Experience operating in a Hybrid Cloud environment, blending on-premise bare metal with public cloud a plus.

+ Demonstrated experience successfully driving maturity, either through consolidation and migration activities or through adoption of standardized platforms that bring improved value.

+ Experience helping teams translate the AWS Well Architected Framework into actionable roadmaps.

+ Experience leading and growing teams that build and manage cloud infrastructure using various Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools.

+ Experience with observability and monitoring tools such as Datadog, Grafana/ Prometheus etc.

+ Deep experience leading teams that operate in a containerized environment, orchestrated by k8s with high volume workloads.

+ Proven ability to lead, mentor, and grow large high performing teams to meet business objectives and quality standards, focused on talent development by creating and enabling an inclusive environment and identifying, coaching, and cultivating high potential.

+ Possess a blend of business acumen to have a big-picture vision as well as the drive and attention to detail that transforms strategy into action.

+ A proven track record of defining business goals and then delivering on those goals to drive profitable growth.

+ Strong decision-making, prioritization, and collaboration skills. A leader that doesn’t use words like “they”, but words such as “we” and “us”.

+ Mastery in applying & coaching technology patterns, frameworks, principles, best practices, and skills across the organization, with a bias for customer & business value, where the customer is both internal and external.

+ Demonstrated ability in integration, delivery, 24x7 operations, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

+ Detail-oriented, organized, self-sufficient, and able to find creative solutions at all levels of the business, product, platform, and organization.

+ Excellent executive and stakeholder communication skills, with a track record of presenting to and collaborating with executive leadership and key business stakeholders.

The base pay range for this position is $230,000 - $240,000 /yr; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. This position is eligible for an annual bonus and restricted stock unit grant based on individual performance in addition to a full range of benefits outlined here.
