Director of Financial Operations and Controller

About the Role

We are hiring a Director of Financial Operations and Controller to lead accounting, financial operations, and strategic finance across a vertically integrated real estate platform. This role combines senior level Controller responsibilities with Director level ownership of financial strategy, systems, and team leadership.

You will own the full accounting function while acting as a financial partner to leadership. This includes construction accounting, real estate development finance, property management accounting, multi entity consolidation, and capital planning. The role is hands on, highly visible, and critical to scaling the business with institutional discipline.

This position is ideal for someone who has built finance and accounting systems in growth stage real estate or construction businesses and wants broader impact than a traditional Controller role.

What You'll Be Responsible For

You will own end to end accounting operations across multiple entities, including full cycle bookkeeping, monthly and annual close, and consolidated financial reporting. This includes oversight of accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll entries, general ledger management, bank reconciliations, and cash disbursements.

You will lead construction accounting and job costing, ensuring accurate tracking of budgets versus actuals, lender draws, retainage, contingencies, and cost codes. You will work closely with development and project teams to manage hard and soft costs, budget modifications, and lender compliance requirements.

You will oversee property management accounting, including rent rolls, operating statements, variance analysis, and lender reporting. You will ensure financials are accurate, timely, and compliant with regulatory and investor standards.

You will build and maintain cash flow forecasting models and oversee liquidity management across projects and entities. You will analyze capital efficiency, vendor terms, and financing structures to identify cost savings and optimization opportunities.

You will prepare investor, lender, and leadership reporting that supports decision making across acquisitions, construction, and portfolio operations.

Leadership, Systems, and Scale

You will lead and develop the accounting team, including remote or offshore resources, setting clear expectations around accuracy, timelines, and accountability. You will elevate the team from transactional execution to proactive financial ownership.

You will build, document, and continuously improve SOPs across AP, AR, job costing, intercompany billing, payroll, and reporting. You will own the monthly close calendar and ensure consistent, repeatable execution.

You will implement and optimize financial systems and tools, including accounting software, construction management platforms such as Procore, property management systems such as AppFolio, and advanced Excel based reporting and forecasting models.

You will partner closely with leadership on financial strategy, growth planning, acquisitions, and operational improvements.

What We're Looking For

We are looking for a finance leader with 10 or more years of experience in real estate development, construction, or a vertically integrated operating business. You should have deep expertise in construction accounting, job costing, lender draws, and multi entity accounting.

You should have direct experience building accounting systems and processes from the ground up, not just maintaining existing ones. Experience managing accounting teams, including offshore or remote teams, is strongly preferred.

Strong Excel skills and financial modeling experience are required. You should be comfortable working in a founder led, fast paced environment and engaging directly with investors, lenders, and tax advisors.
