Capital One seeks a Director of Software Engineering to lead, manage, mentor, and build extremely talented software engineering teams, delivering game‑changing technologies.

We are looking for a candidate who can seamlessly transition between hands‑on technical work and high‑level strategic discussions. You are a naturally curious technologist, stay on top of emerging trends, and blend business value with technical excellence.

Responsibilities
  • Influence executive stakeholders
  • Lead, manage, and grow multiple teams of software engineers, building a culture of accountability
  • Mentor and guide professional and technical development of engineers
  • Work with product leaders to define strategy, roadmap, and destination architecture
  • Manage a portfolio of diverse technology platforms and projects, creating scalable applications to meet customer needs
  • Continuously improve software engineering practices
  • Work across Agile teams to design, develop, test, implement, and support solutions across a full stack
  • Lead the craftsmanship, availability, resilience, and scalability of your solutions
  • Stay on top of tech trends, experiment with and learn new technologies, actively participate in internal & external communities
  • Encourage innovation, implementation of cutting‑edge technologies, inclusion, outside‑of‑the‑box thinking, teamwork, self‑organization, and diversity
Basic Qualifications
  • Intermediate–Advanced English fluency
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • At least 8 years of experience in software development
  • At least 7 years of experience in people management
  • At least 5 years of experience with AWS
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree
  • 13+ years of experience in software development
  • 8+ years of experience with public cloud providers (AWS, GCP)
  • 8+ years of experience in Agile practices
  • 7+ years of experience with Site Reliability Engineering (SRE)
