Public Financial Management (PFM) at KPMG India focuses on strengthening governance, transparency, and efficiency in public sector financial systems. The team works with government bodies to design and implement reforms in budgeting, revenue administration, expenditure management, and analytics-driven decision-making. Our goal is to enable data-driven governance and improve fiscal accountability across departments.


>> About the role

We are seeking a Domain Expert – Revenue, Taxation & Analytics to support advanced tax analytics initiatives for government departments. This role combines deep domain expertise in indirect taxation with strong analytical and functional capabilities to design and implement data-driven solutions for improving compliance and detecting tax evasion.


>>Key Responsibilities:

  • Advise on GST/VAT laws, compliance frameworks, and indirect tax policy matters.
  • Interpret regulatory changes and assess their impact on tax administration and analytics initiatives.
  • Define functional requirements for tax analytics use cases (e.g., fraud detection, ITC verification, risk profiling).
  • Collaborate with IT/data teams to translate business logic into analytics models and dashboards.
  • Analyze GST/VAT data for trends, anomalies, and compliance gaps.
  • Conduct workshops and training sessions for government officers on tax analytics concepts and tools.


>>Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Strong domain knowledge in indirect taxation (GST/VAT).
  • Experience in tax analytics projects or data-driven decision-making.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.


Education:

  • Chartered Accountant (CA) preferred.
  • Additional qualifications like ICWA or LLB desirable but not mandatory.


Experience:

  • 3–10 years of practical experience in indirect taxation.
  • Exposure to government departments or commercial tax authorities.
  • Hands-on experience in tax compliance and advisory roles.


>>Preferred Certifications:

  • GST Practitioner Certification.
  • Certifications in Data Analytics or Business Intelligence tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau).
  • Advanced Excel or SQL certifications.
