DP Theory of Knowledge (TOK) Teacher

Position Overview

The DP Theory of Knowledge (TOK) Teacher is responsible for delivering the IB Diploma Programme TOK course, guiding students to reflect critically on the nature of knowledge, how knowledge is constructed, and its implications across disciplines and real-life contexts. The teacher fosters inquiry, critical thinking, open-mindedness, and ethical awareness in alignment with IB philosophy.


Key Responsibilities

Teaching & Learning

  • Plan, teach, and facilitate the DP Theory of Knowledge curriculum in accordance with the IB TOK Guide

  • Encourage critical inquiry into knowledge questions using real-life situations and interdisciplinary connections

  • Promote discussion-based, student-centered learning environments

  • Support students in developing thinking, communication, and research skills

  • Integrate the IB Learner Profile and Approaches to Teaching and Learning (ATL) skills into instruction

Assessment & Feedback

  • Guide students in the development and completion of TOK internal assessment (TOK Exhibition)

  • Prepare students for the TOK Essay, including research skills and academic honesty

  • Apply IB assessment criteria accurately and consistently

  • Provide timely, constructive feedback to support student progress

  • Maintain accurate assessment records and contribute to reporting

Student Support & Wellbeing

  • Support students’ academic integrity and ethical reasoning

  • Mentor students in managing TOK workload alongside DP demands

  • Encourage respectful dialogue and multiple perspectives in classroom discussions

Collaboration & Professional Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with DP subject teachers to strengthen interdisciplinary links

  • Participate in DP meetings, curriculum planning, and moderation activities

  • Engage in IB professional development and TOK standardization

  • Contribute to Extended Essay supervision or CAS support, if required

  • Communicate effectively with parents and guardians as needed



Requirements

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy, Education, Humanities, Social Sciences, or a related field (Master’s preferred)

  • Teaching certification/licensure (as required by local regulations)

  • Experience teaching secondary-level students (ages 16–19)

  • Prior experience teaching IB DP TOK preferred

  • Strong understanding of IB assessment practices and academic honesty
