Job Description

We’re looking for an experienced EL1 Assistant Director to join our client in a full time temporary 12 month assignment with potential extension. This role is key to overseeing the management and processing of client information, legal notices, and sensitive disclosures, ensuring all actions comply with legislation such as the Privacy Act and FOI. The role has arisen due to a need for strong leadership in handling complex, high-risk information within a dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a specialist team responsible for managing client Releases of Information (ROI), FOI requests, subpoenas, court orders, and other legal notices.
  • Oversee the careful handling and disclosure of sensitive client data, ensuring compliance with legislative requirements and organisational policies.
  • Prepare detailed clinical incident reviews and reports reflecting the principles of a no-blame culture.
  • Analyse complex information across multiple systems, identifying risks and contributing factors related to client distress.
  • Support the organisation and facilitation of clinical review panels and incident meetings.
  • Provide expert advice on legal, privacy, and governance issues to senior leadership.
  • Maintain high standards of integrity and professionalism, fostering a positive team environment.
  • Engage in ongoing quality improvement and policy development activities.
  • Manage competing priorities to deliver lawful and timely information responses and escalate complex issues appropriately.

About You

  • Proven experience at EL1 (or equivalent) in governance, statutory roles, or health/mental health settings.
  • Extensive background managing FOI, Privacy Act requests, subpoenas, and legal correspondence.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft well-reasoned decisions and provide strategic advice to senior leaders.
  • Experience leading and managing teams within complex operational environments.
  • Ability to manage risk in sensitive clinical and mental health contexts, demonstrating emotional intelligence and professionalism.
  • A collaborative approach to stakeholder engagement, with excellent relationship-building skills.
  • Knowledge of APS values and an understanding of working in a government or health-related organisation is highly desirable.
